Water Droplets On Pins

It's drilled into our heads since day 1 that you shouldn't let water get on the pins when misting.
Why?
I ask because sometimes I get a little bit on the pins and they don't ever seem to be the worse for wear.

i get small drops on the pins too... But I've heard the reason you dont want any on pins is because it'll cause more aborts... Not sure if that's correct or not, but I believe it was RR who mentioned that little tidbit

IME it DOES cause more aborts. I avoid misting after pins start. I mist well once the flush is harvested.

My substrate has enough water to push all those shrooms through fruiting? I was under the impression that misting was essential.

i mist until first signs of pins (little tiny white bumps, you learn to recognize them real early). then i lay off. once they're set (you see the reddish brown) i start up misting again and mist through til maturity.
proper misting means light misting. as frequently as necessary, trying not to do too much at once. spraying from a distance, not directly at the surface, allowing fine mist to gently drift down. followed by fanning so get the transpiration/evaporation process moving, so that there's no huge droplets laying around anywhere. this will not abort anything. sure if you spray full force directly at your pins you'll probably damage them. the key is to do it properly! your fruits will thank you for the added moisture as they begin to bolt and eventually reach maturity. your substrate will shrink less. it will be at the correct moisture levels to encourage your next flush.

creamcorn, if I understand you properly, I should stop misting when the itty bitty white balls appear and resume misting once a fair number of those dots turn into a recognizable mushroom shape (albeit tiny)?

yup, thats how i go about it. i figure they're pretty delicate when they first show up, and by that point i've been misting the thing regularly for days if not a week so its pretty moist anyway. im sure i've misted right over them at times without paying close enough attention too though. obviously they're harder to see at times... but again as long as you're misting correctly and not "forcefully" spraying at your casing surface, you dont risk doing much damage anyway.

Correct. Don't mist primordia. Once they become pins, it's ok to mist gently with a very fine spray. As creamcorn said, up your air exchange after each misting so the pins don't sit there wet.
If you mist with large drops or a forceful spray, and then leave them wet, they'll abort. If you get behind the curve and your casing layer is drying out, it's best to rehydrate it by spraying between the pins so you can get more water into the casing layer without damaging the fruits. RR
