Buying a New Computer
    #5892306 - 07/23/06 08:38 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

I have about 700-800 dollars, maybe a little more, to spend on a new PC as the one I'm on just got infested with trojans and needs to be replaced

I was just wondering where the best place is to buy a new computer, whether it be online or Walmart :smirk:

thanks  :mushroom2:

Local shops (usually) have the best prices, just shop around.

Windows Vista is coming out soon, so if you're going to want to upgrade to the newest windows, you're going to need a little power.

If you or any of your friends are skilled enough to build one, do it. You'll save a shitload of cash.

I'd suggest one of the AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Cores, I got the 3500+ and it runs everything. There are cheaper models, too. Go for at least 1 gig of RAM.

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=1619

There are bundles for the AMD's and mobo's.

That's not bad if you aren't a gamer or anything. The video is kinda weak.

just because it got infested with trojans doesn't mean you need to replace it.

Just clean it up, or do a full reformat.

Well you're going to need a big hard drive too.

I'd suggest a 500gb Western Digital Caviar SE16 :yesnod:

500 GB, 300 MB/s, 16 MB Cache, 7200 RPM

You're buying a new computer to fix a virus problem?

Format the drive and re-install the OS.

He doesn't have to get his head around anything when he's buying a prebuilt machine.

No? I guess he doesn't download too much stuff then. A lot of software still isn't geared for 64bit yet, they're waiting until Vista gets released.

I don't realy see the point in him getting a new PC if it's just for video editing and the shroomery. To each their own I suppose

Nice

I agree upon building your own PC. I did that for my first one and It was a great experience and my computer still runs great to this day.

I recommend doing a little bit of research and make your own. You will feel better about it, and you will understand it better.

Also if it is just Trojans hang on to that PC. I bet all it needs is a good reformatting and a few upgrades. Trade that bad boy out in the market maybe? Up to you my friend.

If you have virus, malware, ad-ware probs do yourself a big favor and get this program.

http://www.filehippo.com/download_kaspersky_antivir/

I don't recommend Macafee or Norton.. just me. I think they are clunky and fuck with your PC.

Also use this for spyware.
http://www.filehippo.com/download_ewido/

buy the full program.. or if your savvy crack em

trust me those two will keep your chin clean

www.pricewatch.com

The best place on the Internet to look for new hardware. It's basically a page that looks through all the best deals throughout the web and lists them out for you.
I've used this site about 20 times to buy various computer things and have never had any problems.
