Another question for the newbie grower

After My cakes are fully grown inside of the jars, I place them (using PF TEK Method) in a rubbermaid container (upside down). On the bottom of the container I will fill at least 1/2 inches of perlite (for casing) and plop the cake right on top and cover the container with plastic you can see through. That builds up humidity and moisture. Can anyone give me ideas to sustain the correct procedures for successful growing? Such as keeping the right humidity, what happens if the cake becomes too moist or too dry, and how many times I should give the cake air or maybe fan it? How many times a day? and for how long? Any other useful tips would help, maybe something that you did differently or tried out and work effortlessly. Thanx, peace

From most peoples point of view, dont place directly on the perlite. It cant really get too humid, just keep it in the correct fruiting temp range. Misting your cakes is also a good idea to keep up moisture content. It should also be fanned 3-4 times a day for about 20 seconds (just to shift any CO2 buildups) oh, and remember to put peroxide in with the water that you soak the perlite in. GL

Use some moistened vermiculite to case both ends of the cake, the thickness of a jar lid on the bottom, about 1/16" on top. You can feed the cakes water through the two casing layers. Put the double-end cased cake on a jar lid wrapped in foil or a plastic container. If you put it right on the perlite, it will wick too much moisture from the perlite. And perlite can tend to get nasty. Mist the walls of your Rubbermaid maybe once a day. Do not mist the cakes directly. You need 100% humidity, 75 F, 12 hours of light per day, and the 3-4 FAEs a day. That's it for cakes: very simple. GL.

Cool thanx for the ideas. When giving the cakes 12 hours of light per day, should that be direct sun light, or light from a lamp?
