So fucking hot

Hi there. The area I'm in has been in a heat wave recently. Unfortunately, I do not have central air conditioning, and the temperature inside the house ranges 80 to 90 degrees F (day) at the moment. (!@#$%^&*)
I am of course at the stage where I am trying to initiate pinning, which of course requires a drop in temperature, which of course is not what is happening.
I cannot afford to buy an air conditioner*. Am I fucked forever, or at least until the temperature drops below Hell? *(Actually, I'm also curious if anyone has any experience with those mobile air conditioners, because they are relatively inexpensive starting at about $350.)

you can definatly get a cheaper A/C than $350!!! Whall-Mhart has some for under $100. I had one that cost about that much and it worked great.
also, remember that there are other factors that will initiate pins (FAE, light, hyphae's pinning stragety).
if it were me, i would wait it out, but if timing is a key issue for you then perhaps invest in the A/C.

im in the same boat, im initiating pinning and a blasted heatwave rolled in. its supposed to roll out in the next day or so, but its really slowing things down. im blowing a fan over a cooler of full of ice, it hasnt seemed to help though. everywhere in town is sold out of window unit air conditioners.

You can get a small window mount AC unit for just under $150, at Walmart, Lowe's, or Home Depot. They will cool a 12X12 room just great.
You can also run a big portable evaporative cooler, in an enclosed room. They will drop the temperature 8 to 10 degree's. If it is a big one.

Your talking about those self-contained AC, on wheels like Sams sells? The Pres. of my company has one, yes they work. Have you thought about a used Frig, on a timer to regulate the cold?

Actually, those self contained AC's don't work as advertised. I have two of them. . .in storage. The first $100 offered will put either one of them in your possession. The condenser coil on the back puts out way more heat than you get in cool air from the evaporater coil on the front. They also suck air from your room to blow out the dryer hose to cool the condenser, so they result in a net heating effect, even though right in front of the unit appears cooler. I've thought about modifying them by using two dryer hoses to the outside so I can draw outdoor air to pass through the condenser, but haven't got around to it. I bought an 18,000 BTU window shaker from Sears for $250 and it works much better. It cools the whole condo.
HOWEVER, it's a myth that you need to lower the temp to induce pinning. Watch and see. Don't let them dry out and keep air exchanges up. They'll pin at a higher temp than they can survive colonization at. I'm sure many members have projects pinning right now with indoor temps in the 90's. RR

It IS his fault. With the money he's pissed away on the hydrogen pipedream we could all be running on ethanol.

Oddly enough, I am also trying to initiate pinning with a heat wave going over my province, indoor temp here is real hot, ranging from 30-40 degrees celcius, which is like 15-20 degrees above normal here

The AC in my house sucks and its been getting pretty warm here down South. I initiated pinning in one of my monotubs (a nice pin set so far in my opinion) by getting four bags of ice, double trash bagging them and setting them up around the tub. I did it for several hours one night, stuck the slightly melted ice bags in the freezer to refreeze and repeated again the next night. Unfortunately, I fell asleep during the second night and my bags were too melted to refreeze very well. However, those two evenings worked just fine and I had pins the next day.
