Best casing Tek

Hi, I've read several casing teks here and since this is my first time attempting a casing, I was wondering which one is your favorite or at least which you think is best for a beginner. I'll most likely be using BRF PF cakes to make the transition. Thanks for any help that might be offered.

you can use 100% verm and it will work
best is 50% verm, 50% sphagnum peat moss with a PH buffer
keep it under 1/2inch and make sure its applied evenly, then misted evenly
checkout hyphae's pinning strategy

I found a very easy tek by Shroom Wizard. All it requires is potting soil and brf cakes. That's it. Looks like it may be even easier than the 50/50 tek!

I'm currently using coir/verm and I'm not liking it. The myc is colonizing the casing way too much. Next time I'm doing 50/50, or straight verm if I'm lazy.

I looked at Shroom Wizard's TEK too, but, at even the most basic steps, parts of the SW Tek are just plain bad. I am glad that was pointed out to me by another member before I (likely would have) wasted a lot of time and energy. I realize that you are talking about his casing method, but there are more reliable TEKs. Check the Cult Archive-> Casing thread for the 101 TEK

50/50 chunky Verm & Peat, with a couple % of Coir added. Then pH adjusted to 7.5 or 8 with garden type hydrated lime, then some oyster shell flour added, as a long term buffer. The addition of less than 5% coir, will cause the casing material to colonize quickly. But, not overlay.
Just my $0.02 cents.

I'd start with 100% verm. There's no pH problems and it's one of the most contam resistant casings out there. It's also simple to prepare.
The minimal gains you *might* get with other types of casings aren't worth it IMO.

Personally none of my straight verms casings ever came close to the yields of my peat based ones. Commercial growers would have switched over to straight verm long ago if it was even close to peats yields. Nothing minimal here.

Just straight Perilite works great for the bottom layer of casing for your fruiting chamber. But use 50/50+ method for the pf cake casing.

Who ever said anything about Perlite?
I use 70%Course Verm/30%Coir. People using Verm/Coir often complain of myc colonizing the casing layer too quickly and taking it over . I purchased Coir that's *Non Nutritious* (per claim on pack) and I use MUCH less of it, PLUS, I trigger pinning when the myc JUST starts poking thru. It works. I have no issues with over colonization of the casing layer. In my grow log (sig) u can see one of my cases starting to create it's pinset, it's verm/coir, and relatively even.
I've found in all this so far, in MY experience, I've found what works for me, doing anything ONE certain way, just like someone else, may even be disastrous for you. f u deviate from a plan, be sure it's the smart way and not "ghetto".
for your first time casing, i would suggest 70/30 Verm/Coir. DO NOT LEAVE your case in that freekin INCUBATOR for 3 days like the teK says, WITHOUTH checking it, THIS is why people have over colonized casings.. (other then not reading the labels of the products they buy) I put mine in, checked it 24 hours later, and then again 6 hours later it was ready to go into my fruiting chamber, initiated pinning, and it's taking off great.
gl in choosing your casing tek! If you educate yourself enough, by reading ALL the teks, u can deviate, and use parts from one, and adapt to another. It's not written in stone.

What I found was that 50/50 seemed to outperform verm for the first few rounds, but once the FC and pinning conditions were tuned the verm seemed to perform just as well. So I have seen it perform less then optimal compared to 50/50, but in the end my conclusion is that it will do just as well given optimal conditions.
I gave up on the 50/50 before too long, so I can't say that I ever used it for more than about 3 rounds, but by round 3 everything was busting out so well that there really wasn't any spare non-pinned pan space to be able to show any differences.
