Finding a place to caMp in the Northeast.

I would like to find a nice place to go camping within a reasonable driving distance from S.E. Michigan.
I was was considering West Virginia.
I've been searching for a while and it seems like anywhere I go I'm going to be stuck around a bunch of other people and their noisy kids.
I would like somewhere relatively obscure with good hiking, nice scenery, and preferably decent fishing lakes/rivers/streams.
Any suggestions?

I'm sure West VA is a great place for backcountry camping, which is what I'm guessing you are looking for.
I don't know enough about it to give you any specific locations but I do know of plenty in southwest VA. If you find yourself near there, check out Grayson County, VA. It's practically all Jefferson National Forest and backcountry shit. The AT runs right through it with access at multiple points. There's more than a handful of good trails (both on and off the AT itself) that take you to some fine lookout points and things like that.

Shit, 690,000 acres.
It sounds like a good choice, thanks.

I know it's not the northeast, but have you considered camping in northern Minnesota? It's beautiful!!!

Shit...some of my schoolmates just went camping in West Virginia over the weekend. They were talking about several waterfalls that they go to. It sounds nice down there.

It does.
I'd like to find somewhere with hot springs down there.
That would be nice too.

west VA and VA have some nice camping, along the blue ridge mountains. if you cut through canada at windsor, vermont, nh, and maine are doable in a day, and also make for some beautiful camping.
where in se michigan are you, anyways? you can always drive to the west of the state and come camping in my garden

Come to New Jersey! Where the deepest in the woods you can get is still only 500 ft from a main road.!

Dude there is a 100 thousand places to go! Just go.
Yeah i agreee come to NJ! We also have one of the highest populations of bears.
That and you can never get to lost.
Waterfalls and nice scenery is alll over this country. From Georgia to Maine, its all good. If you want to get away from people go to Maine. The catskills are nice. The smokey Mountains are nice. The Blue Ridge mountains are nice, the kitatinny mountains are nice. The adirondacs are nice.
I suggest you just get in the car and look at your map and say ok this big square of land with only two roads and a whole lot of wooods looks like a good place to go.
Sometimes the best trip is the one you dont plan out. Just let the road and your feelings guide you to where you are supposed to be.
