I can just see the police stepping up their efforts to bust non-violent drug offenders in order to send them to Iraq as cannon fodder.

I was thinking, everying who supports the war effort should be fighting it.

Do you have any idea what cannon fodder is? Because it sure isn't a military force with a 1% casualty rate. Obfuscatory bullshit from Silversoul. What a surprise.

I'm afraid the bullshit is coming from your end of the aisle(as usual). If we're talking about sending prisoners over there, they'd be much more like draftees than the all-volunteer army we have today, and thus would likely be used as cannon fodder, just like draftees were in Vietnam. kthxbye

Another thing occurred to me: After the PR nightmare that we had in Abu Ghraib, do we really want to give guns to convicted rapists and murderers and set them loose in a foreign country?

dr_gonz is from my end (side?) of the aisle? Whatever you think my "end of the aisle" is, it does not include a position that embraces the idea of conscription of any kind. In fact, I have argued very strongly in several threads that conscripts are undesirable, usually against those (including yourself perhaps?) from "your end of the aisle". The draftees in Vietnam were not used for cannon fodder either. "In 1966, U.S. troops in Vietnam numbered 385,000. ..... In 1966, for example, 5,008 U.S. servicemen were killed in action in Vietnam." http://www.slate.com/id/2111432/
A 1.3% casualty rate hardly qualifies as cannon fodder
