Ok Southerner's...I need your help

I'm in B.C. and this week we are hitting record highs. Now, I love the hot weather, and god do I wish I could be at the lake, but unfortunetely, I'm working all this weekend. I do tough work and I'm on nights, 7pm-7am.
Today was like 33 C and I just got of work at 7am. I had so much trouble sleeping all day...I maybe got an hour. And now I'm due back for another 12 hour shift pretty soon here. My question is...
Tommorrow is going to be even hotter and I absoulutely need some sleep. I already got 3 fans going in the room and one of those thick pull down blinds, so the sun isn't getting in. What else can I do to help with sleeping in the heat?

I don't have a/c either.. I know it's been really hot lately. I keep a fan in the window in my room at night. It's about the same size as the window. There are 2 windows in the room, so having a fan in one brings in a stready stream of fresh and and the other open window sucks air out.

I have central air. Oh my God is it heaven. I don't even go outside anymore. I've just sat inside on the computer all summer.

Actually, yea, that's a very good idea. I've heard our walmart has some cheap A/Cs. Thanks bud.
Damn you randal! heh. Central is key though. I'm actually looking into buying a house, and in the area I'm looking, almost all of them come with a central air conditioning system. It's an absoulute must.

Here in Holland is a heatwave too: 30+'C without relief.
I have a simple solution: sleep naked on your bed without anything covering you. If you do this you will get an equilibrium between sweating and maintaining body temperature which will make it bearable, but even small briefs can throw off the balance and turn what could be a good night's sleep into a sweatfest.
If the temperature is above 27'C you won't get any chills, thats why I rather have 28'C in my room than 23'C because then you are somewhere inbetween using sheets and not.
You'll have to leave a door or window ajar because you will sweat a lot though you feel dry and you'll wake up in the dampness of a tropical rainforest. I drink an extra liter (water) before bedtime, just for sweating it out.
If you do it like this I need no fan at all, but one small fan will likely be enough. Don't drink alcohol because you'll sweat like a stoner in the FBI building, and it won't even give relief.
I've got sleeping in hot weather down to a science

What's up, Entity! Danksis just read this and told me tosuggest to you another good technique that works really well. If you have a good fan, you can dampen your sheets enough that they're not soaked, but just damp and the fans will dry then, but it'll give you a cooling period. A mist bottle works really well, too. If you wake up feeling gross, just mist yourself and it cools your body down, with the help of the fan.

Hey, I know this was like 3 pages back, but I've been at work for 12 hours and there was some good ideas.
Wiccan, yea, I was sleeping totally nekkid. hehe. There was no other way it could of been done. The room only has one window and not much of a breeze can make it through with the sunblocker/shade thingy....remember, I'm trying to sleep through the hottest and brightest part of the day. Still, I set a fan in front of the window to try and draw a breeze in.
Drinking water before bed is a good idea though. It's crazy hot there though hey? Gotta love global warming.
And Blissed, damn good idea bud! That would totally do some good. I'm off to bed in the next 15 min and I'm totally going to do that up.

psh. Where I live it was 107 yesterday.
I would kill to live in a climate like yours.
so maybe you could sleep easier knowing that there are much hotter places in the world, and people there sleep just fine.

Buy a window AC unit for your bed room. That'll help. Not too expensive either.

wow, the southerner's acting all superior... Hell yea, 110+ is DAMN hot. I'd melt. But I could bet you many dollars that what I'm feeling in this 30c+ weather is the same you feel in 110f+. Your all extremely used to a warmer climate, therefor your bodys adjust.
It's like you coming to my climate for the winter and me pointing a finger and smirking at you all when you are bundled up, complaining, in -25C and it has hardly no effect on myself. Seriously though, there is no need for a jacket in anything below -7C.

A big ass block of ice behind the fan.. Stick it in a tub so the water captures as it melts..
When I was younger and living in Ca. we had no AC..So I would take a king size sheet and tuck it in 3 sides of the bed.. two sides and at the head of the bed.. Then take a Box Fan and stick it at the foot of the bed with the sheet over the fan.. Turn the fan on high and it will blow the sheet up like a wind tent.. Good way to keep cool in the Summer time wilt a lac of AC... I now live in Houston and ya we got AC.. But the 350 a month power bill blows out the ass!

anyone remember the thread about how to make your own AC with a cheap battery operated fish pump, copper tube, a fan, and an ICE BUCKET/ This would be perfect. In-fact that is the perfect camping revolution, camping in the summer, with AC in a giant 10 person tent! The AC will cost you a $5 bucket of ice for all night, and you can even water the plants you have growing around your campsite.

Tough it out. I live in Alabama where its humid as fuck and hot as the devil's asshole. I don't use my AC in my car. I have leather seats. I'm still alive.
Make sure you hydrate yourself properly. Take a bottle/cup of water when driving. Try to drink the whole thing. Wear a hat if possible. Sunglasses are a must to protect your eyes(even though I don't wear them, I should). Try to avoid dark clothing like blue and black as it trasfers a lot of light energy as heat. Stay in the shade when possible outside. If you're a "fair-skinned" one just wear some sunscreen.
Stay inside often and go outside at night, especially if it isn't humid and the wind is blowing.
As far as keeping your room cold, insulation is all I can tell you. If its possible close your blinds and cover the windows. Keep the light out and the cool in. Keep the room to your door closed, a towel underneeth if you are that despirate. Try to get your sleeping area cold and keep it that way.

This is so weird, it seems to be hot all over, but its actually been pretty cool in Michigan. The days are warm, but with a nice cool breeze, and the nights are actually pretty damn cold!
