hey all. i'd like to find a type of mushroom that grows on BRF so i can do the PF tek. I want to get an understanding of the mushroom growing world and produce delicious edibles, as well as practice for growing cubes. What mushies grow similar to cubes? or at least grow on BRF? from what i've read, oysters and shiitakes will work this way...if there is a problem with this, please let me know.

It would be a better idea to replace the vermiculite with small bits of woodchips but i guess if your just wanting a fell for the pf-tek then go with the standard recipe. You can go down to your local supermarket and pick up some fresh oyster or shiitake mushrooms from which you can clone and make a LC to inoculate ur jars.

Just go to grain, man. It's not difficult at all.

i know it's not diofficult, i'd rather pratice with the PF tek though. like zeegos said, if i replaced the verm with bits of wood chips? would this do the trick? also if i cased it with grain in some way after the cakes were colonized, would that work?

clearly you are looking for a legal shop window to hide behind. unfortunately the only people who grow mushrooms in jars on a small scale are cubensis-mushroom hobbyists, whether or not they later try to also grow edible mushrooms.
if what you really meant was "how do i make a setup that works for different setups" then you should learn grains and get properly into the hobby. when your friends are used to seeing you with bags that have oysters, shiitake and whatnot growing off them, you can much easier grow your own legionnaire mushroom or whatever it is you're after.

The pf tek is just a hassle, IMHO. Grain can be used for nearly any species, as far as I know. Just toss in a bit of vermiculite to balance out the moisture content in your jars.

Jesus Christ--Go buy a dozen quart jars. Get some plastic lids. And Tyvek (free from the USPS). Some RTV silicone shit. Do your filter lids up. Grain is very cheap--if you have a feed store near you, don't hesitate--just go the fuck in and say, "I want 50 lbs. of rye/wheat/oat grain". It shouldn't cost you more than 10 bucks.
