Use your used coffee grinds from the morning pot of coffee in the substrate. I've found that liquid coffee or unbrewed coffee grinds up the chances of contamination quite a bit. RR

ya^ also add coffee grounds to your compost. I just finished with my compost and the end result is beautiful. If you keep stirring up the compost about every other day you should be good to go in about a month. best of luck

I wouldn't bother mixing coir and hpoo... Straight coir is great by itself! I made 2 hpoo, 2 coir, and 2 hpoo/coir the same night... So far, the 2 hpoo and the 2 hpoo/coir are still colonizing, and the 2 straight coir were cased 2 days ago and I've already patched and put in the fc... Straight coir works really nicely, I hydrated it with a coffee/multivitamin mix, and i don't know where people get the idea that coir is expensive... I can get a 2 pound brick for 3 dollars and it hydrates to take up WAY more space than a 10 pound bag of hpoo from tennstud (~30 dollars last I checked).
If you get hpoo for free, that's great, you can leech, dry, hydrate and pasteurize it all you want... I just hydrate the coir microwave for 3 minutes, cool, microwave for 2 minutes, cool, then mix in my spawn at a 1:2 ratio, it's done colonizing in a few days and ready to case...
Anyways, I know I have a huge boner for coir, but there _IS_ a reason this time... And I've never used it as a casing layer... I'm not too keen on overlay or contams, and I'd rather not risk it... moisture control potting soil and unbalanced peat/verm have worked wonders for me so far.
I love you all!
