Smells like garbage, is this early contam. sign?

I dont have a pic of my jars as of right now but if needed I can aquire. Anywho.. So, my jars have been sitting in the dark for about 5-6 days now. I went to check them today and when I opened up the lego bin i was using for a container (my future casing box) I got the strongest wiff of garbage. I was kind of worried, so I took my jars out and placed them on my carpet. I smelled again and it still smelled like garbage. I removed the box, with the intent to clean it but 5 seconds if not even the smell disapaited from the box. Puzzled, I put the box down and out of curiousity, I removed the ductape and tinfoil layer from the top of my jars (3) and found the source of the smell. I put a peice of ductape over the top so the holes were still covered and examined my jars for odd colors. All I can see is white (which i believe is myc.) One of the jars is about 35% covered on the outside, one jar is 26% covered on the outside and one is 10% covered outside in white (started jars at diffrent times). Anyways, can cakes smell like garbage somtimes or do I have to scrap the project.. Also, some of my spore solution is bubbled in the holes of my jars, can that contribute to a odor? Any help would be great, guess I'll wait to see what happens. -High times reader

Update:
I noticed my bin had a black weird spot in it. Is it possible that the jars absorbed this smell? Maybe I'm just grasping at straws here.. Anyways, I'm checking to see if the smell is gone with individual jars being put inside of the box so if one stinks the whole thing up, then I can treat that one individually. If there is contam. can I use somthing to get rid of the contam. other than throwing cake?

SOme of your spore solution is bubbled in the holes of your jars? I am not sure i follow.. Pics will help. What did you make the jars with? And what kind of black spot? Black mold can kill you if it's black mold.
Was it a putrid smell like rotting milk? Or old bread?
Best to throw away contamed jars. If you think it might be contamed but you arent sure then seperate it from the rest

No, it is white. Not black. Anything other than blue or white I'd throw out indef. Anywho, its a BRF+Vermaculite cake. The spore solution is in the hole of the lid, but its staying in the hole, its streched across from side of the circle to side of the circle. The black spot was in the bin not the cakes. I cleaned bin with lysol. The smell is like milk almost but not as putrid if you get what I mean. Its like garbage juice if that helps. I think I might as well scrap it anyway.

That's bacteria. If you left the holes covered, that's the reason. You have to have gas exchange. If they run out of air, bacteria(garbage smell) will bloom in the anerobic environment. Toss them out and start over. Provide for gas exchange next time. RR

Yep that was what I was going to say but I was on my way to a b-day party I even flip my jars (sometimes hit them upside down like you would to crack the seal to open a pickle jar) which forces air through the cake (usually if jars colonize slowly) I just make sure my hands are clean and I didn't just vacuum so there is less chances of a con tam When I am in doubt. I separate.. that eliminates the chance of spreading.. but in this case it's best to start over IMO. Remember you didn't waste you time, You learned something that will help you get to the next step.
