Its pretty fuckin crazy but each successive acid trip seems like its starting off where the last one ended and its taking me more and more closer to god and knowing him more personally in an abstract kind of way only another psychonaut could only kind of relate because for everyone its different.

Tool is all about opening your mind. Tapping and evolving your conscious mind.
They never lay anything out for you. You must research, you are forced to learn. Maynard James Keenan is genius.
Yes they are all about psychedelics. It is every where from their album art to their lyrics.
Alex Grey is a great friend of Maynard's. He is a visionary artist.
Bill Hicks also was a good friend. Openly talks about psychs.
the list goes on and on.

i dont think maynard is christian, at all, even in the song Judith by APC, he says 'fuck your god, many times'...
and ive had many intense trips, and i have seen no god and dont believe in the christian one either...so there goes that theory...

Tool has always been spiritual, and I think that Maynard has always incorporated Jesus into his spirituality, even if he isn't explicitly Christian. I think some of Tool's past songs that seem to mock Christianity have more to do with his distaste for its followers, rather than with Jesus himself. Bill Hicks was kind of the same way: He made fun of Christians a lot, even though he was one.

I would say Tool has become more spiritual in recent years. Maynard is very anti Christian. He doesn't believe in a religion that I have ever heard. His more into spiritual being I would say. Probably has some Buddhist influence. He has openly mocked Christians on several occasions.
Actually a few years back as a April Fools joke he posted on the Tool website that he quit the band to go find Jesus.

I never claimed he was Christian, but as I said, I think his problem is with Christians, but not Christianity per se. And I think the lyrics of 10,000 days bear witness to that.

I think the second coming of christ is just a metaphor for awakening the Christ consciousness inside of us. Christ lives on as an energy force in our hearts and minds.
Thus, when that guy stood up in front of the tanks in Tianamen square, that was the second coming of christ. When mother teresa put herself in harm's way to help the sick, that was the second coming of christ, etc etc...
the more people emulate christ in their own everday struggles, the more his legacy becomes a reality.
thus, there is no 'the one', we are all 'the one', because we can all tap into the empathy and humanity that was embodied by Jesus Christ.

Maybe if you were raised in a jesus loving environment. I was brought up with "everything is one, god is inside us all" and guess what, that's what I feel when getting my mind blown.

well what if it wasn't a joke? i don't think it had anything to do with leaving the band, just that he said he found Jesus.
also doesn't this album seem to disadvocate psychedelics (esp the pot?) as opposed to the other ones?

Although Tool hasn't directly come out and explain their personal "drug experimenting" testimonials, they mention it several times in multiple songs including this quote from Bill Hicks at the beginning of "Third Eye""
“See I think drugs have done some good things for us, I really do, and if you don't believe drugs have done good things for us, do me a favor: go home tonight and take all your albums, all your tapes, and all your cds and burn 'em. 'cause you know the musicians who made all that great music that's enhanced your lives throughout the years.... rrrrrrrrreal fucking high on drugs.”
I agree with others who said the references to Jesus have a lot to do with Maynard's mother's recent passing. If you remember back to April of last year, Maynard said he had found "jesus" and was leaving the band. It turned out to be a hoax and the "jesus" he was referring to was just some Mexican with the uncanny ability to turn wine into urine....
On April 1, 2005 Keenan announced as an April Fool's joke - to the shock of many of his fans and friends - that he had "found jesus [sic]" and would be abandoning the recording of the new Tool album temporarily, possibly permanently.
Kurt Loder of MTV contacted Keenan via email to ask for a confirmation and received a very nonchalant confirmation. When Loder asked again, Keenan's response was simply "heh heh". Loder also noted that Keenan had not capitalized Jesus, uncommon for someone who had just converted to Christianity. The announcement was most likely inspired by Brian "Head" Welch's 2005 decision to leave his band Koßn to dedicate his life to Christianity.
On April 7, the official Tool site announced that the gag was up with the statement; "Good news, April fools fans. The writing and recording is back under way." When approached for comment on his recent encounter with the "Son of God", Keenan said, "That guy's a punk!"
