> Has anyone had experience with this "psychedelic toad".
Yes.
> It seems like a good investment,
Yes.
> It's kind of gross to "milk" them.
Not really.
> and it takes a lot of time to get some good doses
Nope, it doesn't take very long to milk them. There's a decent recovery time for them to produce more DMT though.
> How do you go about milking these ugly little bastards?
Just squeeze the glands while holding them pointed at a mirror or plate, the white medicine squirts out with force. It's just like popping a zit.
> One "milking" will produce 15 doses, at least
No way! Not even close. Try one good sized dose. It also depends how long you let them rest for.
> up to 30 years for the most healthy toads
Try about 10 years.
> It is pretty much a straight mind-fuck, not for the light-of-heart.
It's a body trip or head rush, and no it's not for the faint-of-heart. Just remember your mantra and to breathe. Remember that it only lasts a little while. "Breath of fire," is the best mantra to use IMO.
> Expect an intense psychedelic experience,
That's an understatement. I think possibly the best feeling in the entire world is just after you peak on 5-MeO-DMT and realize that you're actually starting to come down a tiny bit. It's like a really scary roller coaster just after you do the scariest part, after that it's fun.
It's a white-knuckle ride for the first part I will tell you.
> The trip lasts about 15 minutes
More like 5-10. The absolute entire event will be over in 30. You're only really tripping decently hard for 5-8.
> Bufotoxins are highly toxic when taken orally, and can cause permanent brain damage and severe psychosis.
No, they will only cause swelling and irritation of the mucosal membranes at any dosage you would get from licking them. The only way you could die from ingesting their "medicine" would be if you actually bit into one. Licking them might irritate your mouth but it's not going to produce "brain damage or psychosis".
> the venom is relatively safe when smoked
Yep. You won't even get a headache from it. It leaves a pretty bad taste in your mouth for a bit, but you will be in EXACTLY the same state you were when you started after 30 min.
> Plus, it isn't really that hard to take care of
Nope, not at all. Crickets are pretty cheap too. The best thing to feed them is pinky rats. They love those tasty little fuckers. I had a big one and would feed it almost full sized mice.
You can teach them to eat dead mice, cocktail wieners, or even dog food. That's kind tough though. If you put a cocktail wiener on a string it's not too tough though to get them to snap it down.
> wondered if it is more likely to be a experience i would not want to repeat.
It's a powerful trip. Not particularly pleasant, nor particularly unpleasant. It is POWERFUL though and after the first time you will have much respect for the substance. You'll probably wait a while before doing it again.
For me I get anxious because I know how powerful it is and it becomes easy to chicken out. If you're into the powerful stuff, then you'll love it. It's something that everyone should try once, but for many that's enough. It's really cool to travel that far in such a short period of time and come back to exactly where you started from so quickly.

Oh shit, I forgot about this thread!
To answer your question, you "milk" them by gently squeezing the glands that are located on their rear legs and behind their necks. . you really should find an online tutorial with pictures before you attempt to do it, though.

I forgot to put the average life-expectancy in there, thanks.
Are you sure about the venom, though? I read somewhere that it can be very dangerous, on Erowid I think. Oh well, you sound like you know what you're talking about. I'll check into it...

you will ONLY find the SONORAN DESERT TOAD in the SONORAN DESERT!!
Calling it a colo-river toad throws people off, make em think anywhere in that river. well the colorado part of the colorado river is WAY TO COLD AND MOUNTAINOUS for a DESERT TOAD.
The sonoran desert is in central AZ. It spiderwebs to diff't states but the main bulk of it is in AZ.
b/c I love shroomery I will give a herpetological tip on how to find this toad. LOOK IN CANALS IN THE PHOENIX SUBURBS. particuarly gilbert and east mesa. the little canals that run into the med-sized canals that run into the HUGE canals are the best places to find em. Its easiest to find and catch em in the small/med sized canals, you can forget catching them in big canals. The real herper tip though it nightime w/ a flashlight. you can spot them the water's edge in the canals, shine a flashlight on them and and they will freeze in place most of the time. be slow when catching. Sneak up from behind and pounce on it when it least expects it. the flashlight will startle it and most of the time make it freeze in place. Frogs and toads eyesight is based on movement. (unlike the same claim pertaining to the T-rex in Jurassic Park, it is untrue, trexes have great eyesight)
Also the best time to catch them is right after a monsoon rain. end of july-aug is monsoon season, which is the same as the breeding season for the sonoran desert toad. this is when they're out of their dens the most. Me and my brother have caught 20 in one night! Its all about timing. Go after the monsoon rains, at night, bring a bright flash light, look in small canals in the suburbs, dont 4 get about the eyes! "they cant see you if you dont move!" ~Dr. Allen Grant.
PS-the life expectancy of a sonoran desert toad in the care of an experienced herpetologist is 15+ years, give or take.
PSS-its easier to milk 20 of em in one night after the monsoons than it is to take care of a few in a vivarium or terrarium, cheaper too. (not saying they're hard to take care of, east really.)

they are all over the place around here during our monsoon season. where i grew up the things would swarm like a plague from god. after a heavy nights rain you could expect to be woken up by them at some point in the night. the shit is definitely a trip, though my preference lies with n,n dmt.

pebbles2004 said: I have to add that i don't find it "easy" to milk the toad. I was suprised at how hard i was squeezing before the Glands would squirt on the glass. You squeeze at the bottom of the gland and once it squirts you move up the gland slightly and squeeze again until it squirts, repeat till you get to the top of the gland and nothing else comes out. I got about an identical amount of venom a hour later when i milked it again. You shouldnt milk it again for about 4-6 weeks. I have not attempted to "milk" the glands on the limbs, they kick and squirm ALOT when they are picked up.
The leg glands are the easiest to milk. you can get ahold of the gland alot easier and squirt out everything from that one gland in one squirt. you'd be suprised at how huch the leg glands produce. your right the main glands are harder to get ahold of and you gotta squeeze a few times. once you milk one a few times it comes natural. My brother kept one as a pet for a while and it became tame quickly and it literally *let* you milk it w/ no squirmin'
The less they're milked the more potent the venom. The second milking an hour after the first is always weaker too. Thats why me and my brother would catch, milk, and release 'em all at once. you get alot of potent venom all at once, instead of keeping the same toad and getting weak venom each time. We had a shitload of venom but we were to pussy at the time to try it. We sold it once but the customer/consumer smoked it like pot and it didnt work, we told him though it'd only work if you vaporized it.
all this talk makes me really hope my bro sends me some venom. Its still warm enough to catch em I bet...

like 5 years ago i was told you could order the tadpoles (10-20) for 50 bucks. anyone know where to order if there still around? it sounds a better investment than a toad, ive raised tadpoles when i was a kid.
i saw a show on discovery channel about some rain forest frogs that were licked by tribal people,,,anyone know the species?

I would also definately be interested in tadpoles/or fertilised spawn.I guess you would be best speaking to a bufo alvarius breeding pair owner; since apparently they reproduce in massive quantities.
If anyone knows of anyone with any, or any spawn, please send a message.
Thanks,
Thomas.

They only come out around july - September, and August is their peak time. I talked to the guy who works with Bouncing bear botanicals. And plus, milking it too much can kill it. oh yea. and you dont lick these.... you squeeze the venom out and let it harden. then smoke it.

I spend the summer in the sonoran desert and they are incredibly easy to find in their spawning pools after the monsoons. if I understand correctly it is legal to distribute them, if anyone is interested send me a PM

I am a new poster here. but I was looking into this and was wondering if this is could be made into the DMT tea with harmala alkaloids, or if the plants were the only way to go?
and if the venom can be neutralize with the DMT preserved which would be the best way to go about it?
