Store bought manure mixed with coffee grinds, verm and lime

I'm going to start a bulk grow here within the next week. I know hpoo would be far superior to store bought manure, but I currently don't have the ability to order online right now and I don't have a local source for hpoo. I've been looking through some of RR's posts and I've seen that he likes to mix store bought composted cow manure, coir, coffee grinds, and worm castings all together, then add 1/2 tablespoon of hydrated lime per cup of mix. Then, mix all that with an equal amount of damp vermiculite. Bring it all to field consistency and pasteurize. I'm not sure but I'm assuming he uses the lime to neutralize the acidic coffee. I know that I add an equal amount of damp verm to the combination of the other ingredients. I was just wondering what are other people's opinions on how much cow manure, coir, coffee grind and worm castings to use? Also, would it be alright to leave out the coir and worm castings, because I can't find them here locally? My pet store doesn't seem to have coir in stock. I also don't drink coffee, so what are coffee grinds? Are they just used up coffee beans? Thanks for any help!

I realize you don't have the ability to do aged hpoo but I hear very, very bad things about store-bought manure. Just my two cents.

you poor soul! coffee is my dark liquid caffienated master.
but yeah basically. ground up, as the name implies.
if theres a coffee shop, diner or cafe or something near by, ask for some. lots of people do actually, for their compost heaps and gardens and whatnot, so they won't look at you wierd. starbucks actually has a recycling program where they save them in separate containers so you can go get a whole big bunch all at once. http://www.starbucks.com/aboutus/compost.asp

Store bought manure, will only bring you heartache. Better to fork over a few bucks more, for the real thing, from a vendor, if you cannot get any locally.
If the store bought crap worked, there would not be h/poo vendors here.
Think about that.

The coffee grinds, castings and coir are to break up the store bought cow manure which is ok to use, but too heavy by itself and the myc has a hard time colonizing it. The other problem with store bought cow manure is it has a lot of urea in it because it comes from crowded feed lots and the cows urinate as much as they deficate and it all gets scooped up together. Be sure when you open the bag of cow manure, if it smells like ammonia, spread it out on the back porch in the sun for a day or two and the ammonia will flash off, leaving it ok to use.
Of course horse manure is better and can be used by itself, but if you add those other ingredients, the cow will work ok. Just don't use the cow manure by itself, or as said above you'll be disappointed. You can also use straw, ground corn cobs(minus the kernels), cotton seed hulls, dried weeds and/or grass clippings from your back yard, etc., to break up the manure. Just use whatever is easy to find in your location. In many areas, you can get bagged compost at nurseries to mix in as well. Coir or worm castings are not necessary if you have a few of the other things listed. Just make a cocktail out of whatever you can find and go to work. RR

Thank you very much for all your help! I'll have to try this for now, but eventually I'll get some hpoo from a vendor. Thanks again!
