I find these in my front yard all the time, under a big pine tree...they always grow withing 10 feet of this tree.
I live in northeast PA, it gets fairly humid in the summer, and we've had alot of rain recently. I live on a mountain, if it matters.
The mushroom is very hardly with a thick, solid stem. The cap is light brown, I'd say, and the gills are very white. The stem is also white and does not bruise.

It's an Amanita and should be considered poisonous. Nice pics.

looks like Amanita rubescens or something similar, you sure it's not bruising? the base of the stem looks like it turned reddish where the flesh was broken...

I agree with DH, it is likely A. rubescens, one of two well known "blushing Amanita". If you look closely at the base or basal bulb of the stipe(stem) of the mushroom, You can see evident "blushing", or a pinkish/reddish discolouration in the grooves where the flesh has split. Although this species is considered edible, any species of Amanita should be avoided! There are seemingly identical species of Amanita, which are DEADLY poisonous. Do not eat this or any Amanitas, this genus is far too risky.

Thanks guys...I'm not into finding and eating wild mushrooms, but these have been growing there for years and years and years, and I was curious.

Alot of people from PA seem to be finding the rebues everywhere. I personally have seen over 50 around the pine trees in the forest I usually hunt in. They are very cool looking mushies and look very tasty, but alas they are Amanitas, and I never even mess with them. Go look for Ps. caerulipes. They are out everywhere right now.
Happy Hunting!

Those who are considering eating A. rubescens need to be aware of the very similar A. brunnescens which is poisonous. There is also some debate over exactly how many species are actually covered by those two names or how many very similar species (that aren't actually those species) there are.
In other words, be *very* sure before you decide to try eating one of these Amanitas. Mistakes are bad, hmmkay.
Happy mushrooming!
