time to pinset
    #588362 - 03/24/02 08:08 PM (14 years, 8 months ago)

uhm, my aardvark was just looking at his stuff and was complaining to me that he had no pins yet....so listen up you pros out there....
fully colonized rye grain was used to innoculate varying sized containers with varying substrates....well, wheat straw and crappy store bought dung, to be specific.....(no contams during colonization of rye...two experimental containers of dung/straw that were mixed thoroughly probably contammed due to excessive moisture and seriously slow growth)
anyway....everything was fully colonized when cased with 50/50 (and a twentieth part of oyster shells) (oh, the 50/50 was dry pasteurized at 250F in alum. foil cont.)
so, here we are. my aardvark and i. 10 days ago the first of the casings were laid. then 4 days agothe last of them.....
all this is in sterilite (73 qt) with perlite later and 1:16 ratio peroxide fer moisture....
in the first set of casings, there is almost complete coverage of the casing layer with good, healthy rhizomorphic strands- a.o.k.- except....where are the pins?
there are a total of four filter patches on this sterilite cont......two on either side....with a fan outside for air exchange IN ADDITION to the once a day fanning.
oh, for light, i have cut quarter sized holes in the top that are covered and sealed with clear polyethylene. expecting my overhead to penetrate and provide the pinning stimulus (when he peeks thru he can see the containers inside from the light of the other, knowwhutahmean?)
temps are between 70 and 80, usually resting at 75.
hygrometer says 85-90.
he's misting once or twice a day with that same 1:16 H202
the later casings are starting to show thru a bit...but i seriously think he should have gotten some pins by now....
i dont think i forgot anything (but the pics)
my aardvark says ants are good, and that rye seed to pasteurized straw (mixed up) is done in three days. and that pints of rye are done 4 or so.....super quick and bulky......oh, the store bought shit does work if pasteurized with the straw.....
my aardvark said so!!!!!!!!!!!!!
oh...there are ice packs at the ready, waiting for a cold shock, but what would be a reasonable period to wait for my pins to set?
help
thanks
maybe i should go to advanced?

You shouldn't crosspost. Read what it says under Advanced Cultivation:

"For experienced mycologists, this forum is dedicated to the discussion of experimental procedures and advanced cultivation techniques."

Go read it and notice how "experienced" is in bold letters.

lookin for a smidgeon of advice, not a reprimand from the little kid with a big head......thinkin maybe the light is insufficient or that possibly the humidity is a little low......he has a cool mist, too, but was ill-equipped space-wise to make it happen to his liking. he wishes this was outdoors, with 200 lbs of shit in a tent, so that the whole city could laff it up....when you grow mushes for food, especially outdoors, the primordia form all on their own.....so much simpler.....speaking of,anybody know any good morel spots in northern kentucky?

I'm a little kid? You're the one who acts like one:

Your PM to me:

"Subject: jack-assedness

who knows more than who?
is that what this is about?
i'm serious about everything i've said, you seem highly immature, if not just a regular asshole.
my point still stands.....you intentionally posted that shit for your own personal satisfaction......to smite me for my "indiscretion" ,if you will. i have no choice but to pm you again......you have made it impossible not to. although, i have to say, if your intention was to piss me off, SUCCESS!!! if your intention was to help or enlighten, then you have failed miserably.
people like you make policing necessary.....fascist "

My reply to you:

"Subject: Re: jack-assedness

I'd say your anger is a direct result of an inferiority complex. My motivation for posting that reply is because many of us are tired of people like you spamming up the board with your bullshit. I'm speaking for others, not just myself. Why don't you read the messages that the mods recently put up? They're right at the top or the forum, you can't miss them. They say the same thing. I'm just passing it on because you have chosen to ignore them in your haste.

Yes, I'm an asshole. I'll be the first to admit it. Hey, someone has to be. I've earned the right to be an asshole though. I've got my doctorate in asshology. You can just call me "Dr. Asshole" thank you very much. Thanks to you I now know more than ever about being an asshole and soon I shall rise to join the true elite.

Now you say I'm immature? I don't PM people whining like a spoiled little brat saying things like "I bet you haven't even heard about this kind or that kind of mushroom". Also, I familiarize myself with the rules of a forum before I go posting in it. I was only pointing out an obvious error on your behalf that you would not have made had you simply read about 10 lines of text. Go take some anger management classes. It seems to me that you must have very little self-esteem for something so insignificant to mean so much to you."

------------------------------------------------------

Now THAT was for my personal amusement, not satisfaction.

wow. even more helpful....hey, thanks fer postin the pm, i think it does me no harm......
seriously tho, you have too much time for harassment....
i have posted very few times at this board.....for the very same reasons you have thought it your duty to reprimand me....."spam", i believe, should be a term reserved for inanities (which are in great abundance on our beloved 'net) and advertisements, randomness and dumb shit.....
i own mmgg.i own ggmm. shit i own the cultivator and many, many, many publications on fungal flora of all taxa.....field guides, experimental data on chemicals and toxins......i got the good dr. rush waynes manual soon after he published it.....
full of reference material and info.....
had not read the posts you mentioned by mods, but i'm sure that all the crap you like to post is wasting just as much space as the spam you refer too.
anyway,
humidity could be a bit high---maybe not enough air exchange....no matter, both remedied today
little overlay, no big deal, oh, and thanks for all the other replies......
you guys rock....
happy huntin to the mycophagists out there...the morels are coming....

I'm not impressed by your vocabulary. It seems you are trying to give the impression that you are somewhat intelligent. Unfortunately, the more you say, the more you confirm my suspicions that you are truly an idiot. I bet it took you all day to go through the dictionary and find all those words.

Hmmm, let's have a poll:

Is Baldhead A Moron?
Yes, he's the biggest retard to show up on the forum in a long time.
No, Nighted is being way to hard on him.
You're both assholes and you should both shut the hell up!

Wombat right..
we're all friends here.. sorta... We should be helping eachother to find the path of enlightenment!! Not ragging on eachother!
I think it's silly to have a poll on who's the stupid one!! Expand your minds, and see that no one is wrong, and we all need a few more group hugs!!

It was shocking to see you calling someone a fascist! I don't no where you live but I think you crossed a line. In my country it is not allowed to make the Hitler greating. You get busted for it!!! In that same line it is of same quality to call some-one a fascist.

You have your freedom to speakout but regarding the hurt that you can bring it is not okee. Those NAZI's killed millions of people, including some of my family!!!!!

How can you compare a guy as Nighted or any one with them??!!

An excuse would be very nice BaldHEad!!
Is baldhead the same as Skinhead???? Just a question.

About your question about pinning.... RTFM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That all you have to do! Take a look at the Shroomery FAQ, made by topshroomers. Read this board all over and you will have no questions anymore!!!

Please remain peacefull and stay loving toward all living things! We are 1 big family!!!

Eric

damn baldhead, read some of those books you have about mushies.

you fucked up about posting in the wrong section. he just told you so. thats a question for the beginners forum its no where near the experienced level. it was your fault, just accept that and go on. get a new username and start over, and get a new outlook on getting help on this forum. anyone who has read this thread will think your an asshole, so go ahead and start fresh, and dont post in the experienced section until you read all the texts you claim to own. im sure all your answers are in those books, if you do have them. late.

Yeah, my cousin is balding, but baldhead still sounds like a bit of a wanker - however, there are a few others that i think are bigger wankers!

Fascism was around long before Hitler. He doesn't own a monopoly on fascism. He was an asshole too, but calling someone an asshole isn't a Hitler reference, neither is calling someone a fascist.

No, wait, "fascism" was founded in 1919 by Benito Mussolini. So It's a Mussolini reference.

    #592098 - 03/28/02 07:09 PM (14 years, 8 months ago)

does anyone here know the translation for the latin PSILOCYBE?
just a quick question.....NBD
(very significant....i think it has something to do with my name)
uhm. since the EXTENT of a person's KNOWLEDGE obviously has bearing on someone's EXPERIENCE, i would say, in my defense, that my point was that i have cultivated many mushrooms already....laetiporous sulphureus will colonize most hardwood plugs very nicely, and outdoor fall fruitings can be enormous (60-70 lbs frsh, per flush, per stump.....)
i have also been known to dabble in mycophagy for the sheer pleasure of the FOOD. mushrooms just happen to be almost the entirety of my life....hunting chanties, yellow foots, matsutakes, morels, oysters.....all over the fucken place, too! to all you shroomers who don't know the joys of the texture of fresh lobster mushrooms, i suggest you visit the pac nw in the fall...the kings get HUGE!!!
anyway, i digress, but, uhm, i AM a dictionary.
and your poll seems to have gone over fairly well....thanks....now i see clearly just how incredibly stupid i am....really thanks alot.....
my outdoor patch of azures should be great this year.....
shiitake suck.....grow some hericeum erinaceous for the lobster like juiciness....
IM JUST SAYIN" THO
somebody needs to get a grip
my beef was all about a certain attitude of grandiosity that tends to degrade the quality of online activities....the power of anonymity...(not that it's so easy to come by nowadays....)
people online should take the initiative to minimize the sum total of UTTER BULLSHIT that we all must sift thru to get those precious kernals of real info....
i just hate smartasses,i guess, cuz i am one.
oh, and the point about the word "experienced"...that's what got me...the provocative sarcasm....intentionally devoid of pertinence....and based on nothing other than the fact that i simply overlooked a crossposting rule....accidentally, and totally UNintentionally, i might add. my frustration was all about sphincters that get off on playing "I'M-THE- BIG- MAN-AROUND-HERE-AND-WHAT-I-SAY-GOES."
if you don't get the irony of the term fascist...then you have some learnin yet to do....go eat some more godddamn shrooms!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
anyways, i patched my casings and have a pinset to die for....it looks like the careful planning (hehe-irony) has brought the harvest all together, so the fruits will be swelling out of the windows of my friends apartment downtown......
peace to the peacemakers
to every one else------YOUR CONSUMPTION WILL DESTROY YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

" does anyone here know the translation for the latin PSILOCYBE? "

Its not Latin.... I thought it was too..... Its Greek. << Joshua told me it wasn't Latin.

Greek Root : Psilocybe comes from the Greek root "psilos" meaning bald head and cubensis a name Earle assigned to this mushroom because it was first recognized as a new species from a species collected in Cuba.

That was taken from "The Mushroom Cultivator" by Paul Stamets.

Yes your nikname is on the money.

    #593032 - 03/29/02 06:44 PM (14 years, 8 months ago)

i'm so glad someone has a clue...
i just take offense at all the nazi references...sheesh, how does one word come to mean another?
anyway, there are still a few cases that have some resistance to pinning....
over-incubation, overly high humidity......
there is no printed matter that could specifically address each and every setup....thus the utility of a FORUM....for discussion...for some reason, it just doesn't work for me.....
people think im a nazi, and that i'm out to sabotage the effing boards with one cross-posting, while some idiots blubber on and on about microwaving their pf cakes to kill contams or how tap water might do the same thing....and other people flat out refuse to believe anything thats not in the one book they own....
well, i'm fine, thanks....and just to make mention of that person with the stupid "society for creative anachronisms" bent...the dumbest nom de plum ive seen around here in a while...i certainly don't want to provoke the stupidity of the likes of someone who has been graced by the queen!!!!!!!!!!!!!
too bad for me....i used to enjoy things in this spot....been reading these boards for a long time....

my point is, thanks for all the help, and peace to all.
im considering the termination of all my projects that might promote the use of psychedelics for fear that the heads out there are no longer recieving the essence......
this is all about the effects of a certain set of chemicals on the ruts of consciousness....about helping people break out....about promoting positive change....and having a good fucking time.....
this whole thread is so fucking lame i cant even stand it.....
i wish there had been more positivity about this crap....
i HAVE read these books....over and over again...in detail, and have no comprehension trouble whatsoever....
ok this is now way off-topic to boot....i sincerely apologize to all....on my behalf and jackasses'
FINALLY, IF ANYONE WOULD LIKE TO SERIOUSLY ADDRESS MY CURRENT PROBLEM, PLEASE PM ME....I HAVE A VERY TOLERANT AND BENEVOLENT DEMEANOR, IN GENERAL, AND WE MIGHT LEARN FROM ONE ANOTHER.
PEACE
