LC Temps

Just wondering if higher LC temps are prone to giving bacteria an upper hand. This is the first time I left my LC jars in higher temperatures (30C/86F), and had unusually bad results. One third of my jars were contaminated. I usually keep them at 22C/72F and get perfect results. The only other thing I changed was the quantity of malt in the mix. I use just malt in my mixtures, but decided to experiment and threw in considerably more this time around; enough to see quite a bit of malt percipitate on the bottom of the jars.
So the questions are, do higher temperatures favour bacterial bloom and therefore create a higher failure rate and does excess malt floating in the LC cause any sort of problems for the development of the LC?

IMHO I would think so, Bacteria generally, high temperatures are where they are the most prolific. Until a certain temperature. Usually around 100 degrees or so is when most of the bacteria that would be contaming your LC would die off. It would be the same principle of bacteria in your body being killed off by you getting a fever (body raising temp to ensure survival and bacterial DEATH!) OK. So that's what I think. But what do the experts say?

I would think if your LC solution was properly sterilized, and your inoculation tek is sterile, there shouldn't be any bacteria present to flourish, no matter what the conditions, i.e. temp.

Yep, Stond is right. If it's not completely sterilized it will contaminate no matter what you do with it. If it gets contaminated when inocing then it will also contaminate no matter what.
Precipitates are no problem. I read a paper on the analysis of them once and they are mostly iron IIRC. The paper said they cause no problems. They do suck though, makes it hard to see what's going on. Try using distilled water for better results.

If you go over a 4% sugar concentration. You are asking for trouble. That might be the issue, as you used a higher concentration.
72/86F is in the ball park. I would not go over 86F. Between 70/80F is where I try to stay.
