field shrooms vs homegrown
    #5879663 - 07/19/06 11:12 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

Im sorry if this has been asked before, but I searched and did'nt find anything. I know that field shrooms are weaker. So if the normal dose for p. cubensis is 3.5g drym how much should I take with the p. cubensis I picked? Thanks

It actually is about the same. No huge difference in potency. Cubes on horse manure tend to be a bit stronger, actually.

Go by number of shrooms rather than weight with fresh field shrooms. Depending on your experience 5-15 "caps". Eat the whole thing caps is just slang for a fruit.

Why? Dosing on weight is certainly better.

It's much easier to count out big wet field cubensis.

Just found it all around easier this way. If you do dry them the potency of wild cubensis is greatly reduced when dried. IMHO they are less potent already.

It is easier, true.
But it is MUCH, MUCH less accurate, since not all mushrooms weight the same.

I think that if it's cubes we're refering to here then 5-15 caps could be a substantially greater dosage than the average person would be willing to take. I'd say a more typical dosage (at least in my experience) would be 3-8 caps but obviously if you can get you hands on a scale weight is the way to go.

I must concur. If you have access to a scale, dosing will be far more consistent. Weight measurement is far superior to "counting caps", however, in a pinch, knowing approximately how many mushrooms consist of a regular dose may be the more viable option.

Doodoomaster, Anno is correct. a clinical dosage for P. cubensis is 3-5 dried grams or the equivalent of one fresh ounce. That one fresh ounce could be from 1-50 small mushrooms or as many as one large mushroom. So you do not go by how many musrhooms you eat as you stated.

mj

Cultivaterd shrooms tend to be a tad more potent than their naturally occurring cousins.

And Gumby,
there is no scientific evidence to support a theory that mushrooms appearing in horse poo are more potent than that of other four-legged ruminants (cattle, cows, buffalo, gaur, sheep, kangaroo or goat, deer, elk, etc.)

It probably will grow although it is my understanding that alot of the colonization of mycelium takes place when a cow for example digests the spores and it starts to colonize inside the animal. It should work in theory I just don't know how big of a waste that may turn out to be.

mjshroomer, 3-5 dried grams of cultivated Psilocybe cubensis is entirely too much of a dose for most people to handle.

3-5 dried grams of wild P. cubensis is more realistic.

Wild Cubensis are potent when fresh, but they degrade in potency drastically once dried, especially with the specimens that have their veils snapped.

When cultivating Cubes you get to choose the right time to pick them (before their veil tears). But in the wild the Cubes are usually already mature with their caps expanded.

An example is I have eaten about 1 dried ounce of wild P. cubensis and just had a medium intensity trip.

When you cultivate them and pick them at the right time and take good care of them, they can be entirely more potent than the average shroom tripper can handle.

1-2 grams of dried premium cultivated Cubes is a dose for most people.

3-4 grams of dried wild Cubes is equal to that about.

The only part wrong with this statement is the last word (that probably should have been two). That was unnecessary.

I agree everyone has a different tolerance, but that does not negate the ranges stated above... There are at least two reasons for these ranges:
1. Because potency of mushrooms varies.
2. Because peoples tolerance to the active chemicals varies.

The only one being an ass hole is you, by having initiated the insulting remark. Try to think clearly rather than letting your emotions run loose- the OTD is for that.
