"It seems like my soul is just being drained out of me one hour at a time. When do I start to get some emotional compensation for my suffering besides $6/hour? "

I know the feeling. Welcome to the American Dream.

Life and your experiences in life aren't inherently good or bad, its all how you perceive them. Yes, emotional pain can leave us stronger and wiser people, but that is only because we've chosen to extract meaning to these experiences. I think that we can extract meaning from almost any experience and learn and grow from it. If you don't like the way your life situation is going, that means you either need to change your situation or change your attitude toward the situation.

Life's too short to spend doing something you hate. I hate work too, probably just as much as you do. So I don't plan on working at a conventional job. I haven't figured how how exactly this is going to work yet, but I'll work something out.

when i read your words, I see the reflection of my soul. The way i see it, almost everything that we are taught from the moment our innocent minds start to melt away is wrong, the ego of society. most of our parents tell us that the only way we will be successful in life is if we get good grades in school, go to university, and finally become a doctor or a lawyer. What you and i search for is a different path, we are stepping away from the ego of society and becoming independant spirits. The path i choose is one of investment, where the blood sucking chretein will have about 30% less meat to sink his teeth into. you may come across many phsycic or verbal attacks along your path, trust in your spirit, he will show you your next left or right.

And personally I beleive it has no extra value unless you enjoy it - which you clearly dont .
I just work enough a week to pay my rent and food - not much and only work 10 hours a week .

I don't know how old you are, but I experienced the same feelings when I was younger
and making $4.85 per hour. But then I got older, gained experience got a better job
and eventually had the same feelings making $22.00 per hour. As a matter of fact, I
was more miserable at $22.00 than I was at $4.85 per hour. Why is that? Because
after living a while at the higher wage, I would lose too much to quit and take a job
I enjoyed more. I had a family to support and bills that needed to be paid.

I finally bit the bullet, borrowed some money went back to school (on as fast a program
as I could find) and received a formal education doing something that I already did for
fun in my spare time. I started out at less than half of my previous job, but I was
happier.

When you're doing a job that only pays $6.00 per hour, it's bound to be something
that doesn't require a whole lot of talent, that's why the pay isn't very good (which isn't
to say that you aren't bringing more to the job than other people would). It's
simple supply and demand.

Find something that you enjoy doing. If you enjoy it, it's easier to become good at it. When
you become good at it, you'll make more money. More importantly, you can
get to the point where you can loose yourself in your work and suddenly you realize
your work day should have ended an hour ago but for a while time lost meaning and
what you were doing gained that meaning.

This is a concept that is familiar to those who know about zen.

But then... not everybody can be a porn star.
