Light Cycles
    #5878678 - 07/19/06 06:26 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

Is there a propper amount of time to leave the lights on in a FC?
To my knowledge, light only acts as a growing direction, and a trigger for fruiting, rather than hormone development (as in plants).

For my own fruiting chamber, I had planned to have some blue LEDs affixed to the top that would be running 24/7...should I change this? or just leave it as is?

Yes. >0 sec. and <25 hours a day.

It's probably fine, but why not just get a fluorescent?

mainly because I just happen to have a 1000 pack of ultrabright blue LEDs, as well as free access to any power/number of resisters I need...and just freakin enjoy building things more than buying them.

Well if it's enough light to read by then it should work fine.

Yeah, there's a blue LED tek somewhere around here... it actually looks really cool too. It's like a rave for your mushrooms :P

If you're going to use LED's, use white ones. Your mushrooms need full spectrum light, not mood light, and some evidence points to light at the higher end of the spectrum being somewhat better at setting primordia. Bright light will penetrate deeper into the casing layer, stimulating more pins than dim light. Avoid lights that produce excess heat such as incadescent or halogen.
