I use a tetra whisper air pump. I got for 15 bucks. It's for a 30-60 gallon tank and has 2 outputs. My FC is about 20x16x and 14 inches high. At the bottom on each side about 1 1/2 inches high i put a small hole and stuck 2 blue air stones on the inside with the port for the tube sticking out. the stones are about the size of crayola marker cap, the fat ones. then just connected the tubes on each side. and i got 6 holes, 3/8 inch on the front and back sides and 2 at the top filled with polyfill for exhaust. i'm sure i don't need to fan. But i still have to open it here and there to mist and/or water the layer of perlite. I think that once the casing which is what i'm useing gets covered with MYC it's not as prone to contams. But i also use peroxide ,in the water, and i allways spray around the area, around the pump, and in my room in general day to day with lysol. and just do my work fast with smarts. But everybody's setup is a little different. But good luck.

Understandable. I hate the english system too. I just hope your degree isn't in civil engineering.
I'm horrible at calculus, so don't feel bad.

This is great, I’ve been waiting for such a topic. Well so far most of the options have been rather active. Why not set up a passive filter where you line the walls of the FC with a o2/co2 permeable membrane. That way it’s as if the FC isn’t even there while not loosing moisture or gaining contams from the air. I tried looking for relevant information online and found it.

Although I couldn’t find a co2 chart I’d expect co2 to behave like o2. As can be seen LDPE is the best choice followed by HDPE. A source of HDPE are those walmart bags that have been filling up your trashcans and the better LDPE comes as the new “saran wrap premium”. If this is correct I plain on cutting vertical slits in a large Tupperware container and covering them with LDPE and tape so the heaver co2 can drain out and draw in fresh o2 with no lose of humidity.

500 cc per 24 hours over a 100 square inch area isn't going to be enough.

That may be true, but those numbers are for material 1 millimeter thick. Store bought saran wrap is 0.05 mm thick. Thats a 20th the thickness and should provide less of a barrier to both gasses and, unfortunately, moisture as well. If this was all combined with an aquarium air pump to force new air in and old air through the barrier then given enough surface area, its hard for me to see a problem with this method. Of course if this is false I'd rather see it fail in theory than with a monetary investment.

Interesting. I didn't know that.
If you are using an air pump though, what would be the point? Maybe trying to ouse the saran wrap as a filter?
You'd have to have an airtight FC then to use it that way. But the investment of one roll of saran wrap doesn't seem that big to me, so why not try it?
