storing large amounts of casing mix ?!?!?!?

hey all, i want to make a large amount of casing mix so that i can experiment with different substrates over a long period of time. i have been using a coir/verm casing with some success but i want to switch to peat/coir/verm mix(the coir colonizes to fast). my question is can i make a large amount of casing mix and store it over time and at the same time keep the Ph up around 7. i am thinking that the buffer i use may run thin over time if i store it for to long. i am not sure what i will use as a buffer yet, something that will last over a long period most likely. i will be mixing the casing material and sterilize it with a pressure cooker in quart canning jars. so again how long is to long to keep a casing mixture???

You can keep it however long,
why risk contamination that way?
It's best to use newely sterilized supplies.
But if you want to store some, here is a start:

If you're using coir, it's good to add organic blood meal to raise the nitrogen content, for a buffer add some oyster shell flour.

why would you ever want nitrogen in your casing mix EVER. Remember, coir is already nutrient rich, adding nitrogen would just turn your coir casing into a bulk substrate even faster. never add nutrients to your casing layer, it defeats the purpose of a casing layer all together.

Don't try to store it. You can only store peat or coir long term while dry. Make up a fresh batch of casing each time you case. RR

i usually PC all my casing mix at one time, like as much as i can do in one PC run. it sometimes takes a few weeks to use it up, but i have NEVER had a problem with this. i keep it sealed in the bag, and i wear gloves when i have to reach in and get some mix.
the moisture content is still right on at the end of the bag, and ive never seen it lead to contams IME.

CERTAINLY:
(however)
I think the point is that if you mix up a casing mix, hydrate & store it.
You are adding the element of moisture.
Nutrient, air, temperature & MOISTURE is required for spores to germinate.
Casing mixes are not supposed to have nutrients.
But, there might be some minuscule amount, in the mix - somewhere.
Which could give a contam, what it needs to germinate, lurk & wait for more nutrients. As - when you cover a substrate with that mix
EDIT TO ADD: EVERY substrate will contaminate. The KEY factor, is WHEN. After the second, possibly 3rd flush, I don't care.

the reason that i wanted to store a large amout of casing is because at the moment my PC will only fit 4 quart jars. i just wanted to get the casing mix out of the way up front. but i guess that i could whip up a new batch as needed. i was thinking of using a mix as follows
1 part coir 1 part peat moss 1/2 part verm ? oyster shell
what do ya think?? and how mutch oyster shell is normally used??

Casing mix should not be sterilized. Casing should be pasteurized for best results. RR

ok guys good looking, i have been growing for 3/4 of a year and i now feel like a newb again. i used just coir/verm on my last grow with good results but i had to pay constant attention and patch all the time to get good results. do you all think that using coir is esential at all or should i just stick to peat moss/verm? BTW what is the best type of peat to use for casing?

Ive never had a bag of casing contaminate, but now that i think about it, i used to have typically mediocre pinsets. Ill have to try it RR way.
