My first jars that survived, question.
    #5874873 - 07/18/06 07:38 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

The one on the left was my friend's rye jar, the one on the right is millet. The rye is one day ahead of the millet, hence the thicker growth.

His question is, for whatever reason, the one on the left has straw kinda suspended over the top that isn't colonizing and the on the right doesn't. Should he pluck those off w/ sterilized tweezers or just leave the containers alone and they'll colonize it in due time?
Thanks.

They would colonize in time if you let them. However, I don't think there will be any real advantage having them in there....It's not like you would get fruits growing out of the strands. If you didn't let them colonize fully on the other hand, they would be an easy source of contam. I would pull them off.
