This idea isn't mine. but, was told, it's okay to pass it on.
I have seen this in action, on a fairly large scale.

You can (usually)find everything you need, in one trip to Lowe's, or Home Depot, or Ace / True Value hardware..
Go to the evaporative cooler replacement parts section.
You will find small reliable inexpensive float valves, inexpensive high quality 1/4 inch tubing, tubing connectors, and small brass valves that clamp on to existing water lines (kitchen, bathroom, laundry or wherever). Buy a plastic bucket, or tote to use as the reservoir. Do a little drilling, connecting, and plumbing, and you are AUTOMATED.
If you want, and can afford it, you can run this from a 100 GPD reverse osmosis water filter system.

Nice setup, the only 2 things I would add, would be sure and plumb with copper, instead of plastic tubing. And mabe add an Active leak detection system , which can be found for around 30.00-50.00 $. The only reason I say this is I work around water systems, and floods do happen. Especially with the sensitive nature of what your growing, you dont need to have a flood happen, and the maintaince men come over while your gone.

He owns the place. So, a maintenance man would only come, if called.
He does have some kind of sensor shut off at the line head. I don't know how it works. But, if water surges fast, it shuts the system off. He uses a copper colored thick 1/4 inch plastic tubing, the same as on the huge evaporative cooler water supply, the ice cube maker, and to the aquariums. 100 ft was inexpensive, and it's real tough stuff. Copper would make this more expensive than it is. But, for those who can afford it, okay.
