I've been looking into this for quite some time now. I live in an area that has alot of forest and cow fields, both of with have mushrooms everywhere. I just never picked because I was never sure of id's. I feel very secure you guys know what your doing, so I am going to give it a try. I have a few guides on what to do, I was just wondering what tips you guys could give me on what to look out for. I am in Eastern Pa and am looking for some magic mushrooms. So anything you guys know would be greatly appreciated!

If you are hunting on private property and think you might be seen, such as a cow pasture, you should find the home owners and ask them permission to go on the property. Say you're studying mycology either as a hobby or in school (say name of school) and was wondering if you could scout the area for specimens to study. Wait for them to ask "what is mycoo-what??" Then tell them, it is the study of fungus and mushrooms.
If you don't you risk angry property owners shooting at you, or cops showing up.
store the mushrooms in a paper bag or cardboard box.
Oh, and don't eat anything you find until you are sure of the ID. Duh.

Just do some research, learn how to take spore prints and study up on how to separate actives from inactives.. It's pretty easy.
In PA, I would look for Panaeolus subbalteatus (google and search posts on it), Gyms, and possibly caerulipes depending on your area, as there have been finds of that species in PA.

heaps of hay/dead hay in a feild with horses close by, thats where you'll find the jackpot of Pan. Subbs. Good luck and welcome to the Shroomery.

If you check on and around the hay to no avail, don't ditch the the hunt yet, check the grass, that is where i found subbs. You will want to spore print all of your finds in order to weed out inactive and/or poisonous species.
