A thought on dunking of the casings

I have been reading that your subsequent flushes from casings are usually less potent as the myc absorbs the nutes from your substrate. I currently have several Hpoo casings going now and I am getting ready to dunk them before their 2nd flush. My ? is - would it actually be beneficial to mix up a solution of water and (something with nutes) to use as my dunking material? In theory it appears that this would help rehydrate the casing and add more nutes as well. Thoughts? -Me

the only problem i see with this is that you will be putting nutes into the casing, which will promote contamination.

Mycelium eats all its food before it starts to fruit. Once in fruiting stage you want to keep it there and not give it more nutes. Water alone will give you bigger flushes. Adding nutrients is more likly to put consumable nutrients on the outside of the casing, giving something for contaminates to attack your casing and eat.
I would not do it, but if you want to try it out, just do it to 1 or a few of your casings and just dunk the rest, then youll have your own comparision of what happens. Dont be upset if you get mold though and it spreads in your grow room..

Dunk in plain water. It's a myth that subsequent flushes are less potent than the first. Evidence points to the opposite in fact, with second and third flushes being more potent. Don't believe everything you read. RR

I have only read that flushes get more potent up to the 4th, being the most potent, then decrease again. They definatly will usually decrease in weight each flush (as long as you did well in the first flushes) but not potency. There was some study done somewhere as to that effect.

Good call and thanks for setting me straight, however, What if I want to be upset when I get mold and it spreads into my grow room? Can I blame you personally?
Seriously though, thanks for the 'reminder' as to how myc works. I wasnt exactly putting 2 and 2 together on this one.
RR - I will trust your judgement here as well. Hell... ALL OF YOU who replied to this thread. Thankies. -Me

This thread may be helpful: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=0&Board=casing&Number=2129821&page=0&fpart=all
It suggests that dunking is unneccessary (some people still like it for grain though). And has some general info goodies in it.
