Captain's Oven Technique
    #587279 - 03/23/02 01:47 PM (15 years, 7 months ago)

Clarify something for me, please. If I understand correctly I work on/over the rack at the lowest heat setting. But does this degree of heat kill the spores during inoculation? Do I inject the sites over this wave of heat? And surely, I don't allow the jars to heat up on the rack right before inoculation. Wouldn't this kill the spores? I'm having trouble visualizing this helpful technique. Any guidanceis very much appreciated.

That helps immensely. Thank you for taking the time to reply. I was just reading some similar information in "Boyfrined in jail" e-mail. I feel better about the procedure.

There are a few lost souls our here (myself included) that claim the oven tek actually makes contamination worse, not better. If it works for you, stay with it. If you have contamination problems, you might try using a cheap homemade glovebox instead of the oven.
