cultivation state: doubts

hi people. this is my 1st post here, and i'm happy to be among you (even if my english isn't good). i'm now growing 2 strain: pc palenque and pc huautla, palenque using shroomshaker© and huautla using another kit. Huautla isn't yet pin-ning. palenque has already produced some mushrooms:

i've picked up the biggest ones, letting on the jar some littles mushrooms cuz not sure they are aborts. But my principal doubt is the substratum state. It seems me a bit dry... even if touching while growing it appeared soft. I have bedewed with a vaporizer and distilled water after the harvest of first flush (yesterday) but today the aspect it's the same:

what do you think about my jar state? Can i wait my 2nd flush serenely?
thanks to all community.
P.S.: my fructification room is a portable freezer (internal space 22x35x35cm) keep damp vaporizing with distilled water 4 times to day and keep cold using containers of refrigerant liquid (you can see them on the 1st link above).

I'm terrible at diagnosing stuff by pics but it looks to me like your substrate/myc is too dry. The top pic looks a little dry but the bottom ones look downright tundra-esque.
Welcome to Shroomery.

thank you splifner.
i understand the difficulty to give me an answer. I'm posting only cuz i'm worried about my cultivation, this is my first experiment. few hours ago i moved the 2 kits to another fruiting container placed on another place with a more constant temperature (without use refrigerant liquid). It's a simple platic container, covered by nylon with a micro filter on top (cut from shroomshaker bag) and damp perlite on bottom. I thought in that container my 2 kits could live more calm than before. Now i'm waiting for to see a change... a 2nd flush from shroomshaker i hope.
the kit not yet fuiting (not the shroomshaker jar, but the other) has suffered a shock 4 days ago... i've shattered a bit the surface of substrate for to let mycelium get better humidity but replacing on the freezer the tub it's partially upset, and a part of the superficial layer is fallen. I re-covered with 1/2 cm of sterilyzed casing and reput to it's place. Do you think could be better bring out of fruiting keeping it to an higher temperature for to recolonize the surface, or i can leave the tub to fruiting container? I'd like to try huautla too... :/

Definitely way too dry. Mushrooms are 90% water. When there's isn't much water, there isn't much mushroom!
After you harvest those, dunk the containers before a second flush. (Fill them with water, cover, and place in the refrigerator for a few hours. Drain completely then replace in the FC.)
You can go further by misting them gently and frequently, take a spray bottle, and spray "over" the container allowing the finest mist to drop down onto the surface. Do not get it too wet, but never let it get that dry either.
You should see much better results from your second flush with the added moisture.

hi creamcorn, and thank you too for the help. uhm, your method for to give a "new life" to my jar it's really really interesting... i'll try just this evening!!!
P.S.: i suppose this method isn't good for the other dry tub (you can see a part of it on the 1st pic)... this tub has not yet produced mushrooms, i put it to FC after a full colonisation, covered with a layer of casing and waited. It has the same problem of dry surface but i fear to contaminate it using your method because isn't in full phase of fructification. What do you can say me about saving of it? What way can i chose?
thank you very much.

i was going nervous, then... i did it! now the jar is refilled of distilled water, covered by aluminium on the refrigerator. The content of the jar wanted float over water (damn... so much air inside the substrate...and so few water) but i locked down with aluminium paper well fixed to the jar.
in 6 hrs around i'll end the procedure, draining the kit and replacing into the FC.

My pre-soak substrate floats during dunking too. I just fill a 2L bottle with water and place it on top of the substrate. Sometimes it takes two 16oz bottles, two 2L bottles, whatever fits for the size of your container. Another container of the same size resting on top with the substrate submersed and sandwiched between them usually works.

thanks splif. 2 hrs ago i ended my dunking. i replaced the cake on the FC. I haven't dried the cake with absorbent before the replacement cuz i feared to damage it, but i think isn't a problem. now i must wait. Hope to see first results of tek within first days of next week. the temperature here it'a problem now, and the place i was using for fructification it's now for some hours over 25°C. Hope that next week brings fresh air... and mushies.
see you, and (thank you)³ to all.

Your humidity and dryness problems are caused by the "refrigerant liquid". They are much colder than the air in your FC, so this removes humidity from the air by causing water to condense on them.
I would remove the cold packs and decrease the air exchange a little. That should prevent them from drying out in the future.

fastfred, i think exactly the same. If i think weel, my dryness problems are started when i changed the FC with the portable freezer and refrigerant liquid. I read something about these bad effects of refrigerant liquid, and now i'm sure i'll never use it.
my actual FC it's a simple plastic container with wet perlite on bottom, covered by a roof of nylon (cleaned with alcohool) with 2 small holes for air exchange. Simple but functional i think, and above all giving me less work!
soon i'll send a pic of FC and kits.
have a nice day boyz.
