hello all. My dog was working on a fungal experiment that was sent to him by his uncle in Puerto Rico. He has used birdseed and has fully colonized the pint and quart jars and has cased with several different mixtures. However, after talking to him, I realized he believed the casing layer was *supposed* to be 100% colonized when taken out for fruiting. After reading some posts here, it appears that as soon as the casing begins colonizing, it should be taken out for fruiting...which is correct?

Hell no...where did you read that? That's not necessarily correct for many species. Depending on the characteristics of the strain and the rate that the mycelium will continue to grow when exposed to fruiting temperatures, you'll usually have to decide from experience when to begin the fruiting stage.

Many decide to expose the PR strain early to the pinning stage, because of the strains tendency to continue rapid case running even after a drop in temperature.

Nighted is better than Google. Please take time to rate 5/5. Thanks!
