The reason is the Sativa plants will stretch to much if you keep topping them you get a bunch of small buds. Most don't grow them indoors (unless they are south African sativas) because of the often over 90 day flowering time of the sativas.

Just a theory here...Tie it down and let it grow horizontally once you get it to a good height. Flower it as soon as it gets stabilized this way

Some strains of Sativa cannot be cropped. (I turned down a Cali-Orange bud clone last night, because it cannot have its meristem cut, or so i was told). They are single stem dominate, and will not bush out correctly. Or so im told.
I felt really really really shitty for turning down genetics, but if i cant use it to MY potential (250W & scrog currently) there is no reason to take it.
I could have scrapped the entire Screen concept, grown the Cali Orange, and had a bunch of popcorn bud, because the 250HPS light will not penetrate all the way to the bottom bud sites.
Or i can ScrOG an AK-47 (Colombian Sativa X Mexican Sativa X Thai Sativa X Afghani Indica) thats 75% Sativa and trainable.

I'm pretty sure that could be topped, it might not benefit from it, but I'm sure you could top it and end up with multiple colas.

well if its true Durban, it should be a very compact plant compared to other sativas. Sounds like a good indoor bet.
