Hello merry campers, please offer some advice. I have a cake koh superstrain that is pining on the underside thru the verm and nowhere else. Should I turn the cake upside down or leave it right side up. Also dunking, is it better too do right after colonization and before the cake go into the terr or wait for a few flushes? Thank's for your time.

Just let the cake grow as is...it will find the light by itself. Dunk right after birth, this will replenish some of the water the cake lost during colonization and the drop in temperature during the dunk will tell the myc its time to begin pinning!

Are you trying to pin?
If so, make sure all the sides and bottom of jar are covered.
If you're just incubating, you should be at aout 80-82 F with NO source of light, as the light is what triggers the mushrooms and shows them the way up-

1. If your still in the incubation stages, your cakes should be inside of sealed jars. There should be no source of light. There should only be small openings for the air exchange.
2. Dunking. When you jars are fully colonized and ready to go into a fruiting chamber or tetarium. Remove the cakes from the jars and fully submerge them in mineral water for 18-24 hours. No more than 24 hours is need as they will start to break apart. When you do this make sure the container your putting the H2O and cake in, is clean. Make sure to not touch your cake with your bare hands.
I dunk my cakes after colonization and then after each successive flush. This is the best idea, as colonization time is usually a few weeks your cakes will need rehydrating.
