Creatine

Anyone tried creatine? Is it safe to use (please provide references other than wikipedia)? I've always stayed away from it because I'm not sure about having water in my muscles... and it's long term effects? What happens when you stop taking creatine?
Edit:
Quote:
Caution Urged
There appears to be some potential for creatine supplementation. However, many questions remain. Are there any long-term harmful effects from supplementation? Is there a point where enhanced performance levels off from long-term supplement usage? What effect does "stacking" or taking two ergogenic aids simultaneously have on the body? What happens if you immediately stop taking the creatine supplement? Is the enhanced performance great enough to warrant the expense of the supplement? Until further research answers these questions, creatine is not recommended for the average athlete.

It works. I'd recommend using it for a month, then staying off for a month. Take a 'good' form of creatine, not the cheap crap made in some sweat shop lab in China. Take it according to the directions, get lots of sleep, train extra hard and take in some more water.

Green Bulge was the first supplement I used that wasn't Creatine Monohydrate (Creapure). I loved Green Bulge because it's primarily Magnesium Creatine Chelate... Combined with Creatine (actually, chelated) it's a powerful combination. Creatine Ethyl Ester is also found in Green Bulge which makes it a very solid Creatine, even for so-called non-responders. I can pull up a few studies if anyone wants them.
Don't worry about having water in your muscle either. You WANT it in your muscles as opposed to being just subcutaneous water. That's why you get puffy and not as "cut" looking.
Creatine Monohydrate creates a by product called creatinine and that's what leads to water retention et al. But dude, CM (Creatine Monohydrate) has been around and tested for over 15 years. If you're going to take any supplements, these are tried and tested. But don't let this turn you off. You WANT muscle volumization. There's nothing more psychologically addicting than the pump. But there's a lot of science behind it as well.... I recommend these supplements for anyone new to bodybuilding or in their teen years.
**Whey Protein **Creatine Monohydrate **Caffeine **Fish Oil
I'm currently taking a product from Controlled Labs called Green MAGnitude. I've copied the ingredient profile below, it's not a proprietary blend like Green Bulge which can turn people off.
Magnesium Creatine Chelate 2500mg Dicreatine Malate 2500mg Betaine Anhydrous 2000mg L-Taurine 2000mg L-Tyrosine 500mg Magnesium 350mg
Good shit. The guys at Controlled Labs were kind enough to choose me a tester before it was released to the public. In a couple of weeks my bench hit 225lbs for three reps, my squat is now 265lbs for 4 deep reps and my deadlift is 285lbs at 3 reps. I haven't tried for a one rep max because I believe in training smart.... but I mean seriously, any creatine is better than none. You should really try Creatine Monohydrate to assess your individual tolerance too. Regular Creatine will easily help you bump up your weights and reps. Not to mention, help you retain a little more water in your muscles. I'll post before and after photos in a month or so when I'm done my log.
Do a google search and you'll find a million and one articles about creatine. I dare not post any because I wouldn't know where to start. Far too many out there. But Creatine Monohydrate is dirt cheap, amazingly safe and effective. I highly suggest that you try it.

I love the creatine, it stops me from getting my "yawn attack" in the gym. And when I suddenly stop I get no ill effects. The best is probably to do as Duckyousucker said and do one month on one month off. And I keep hearing about green bulge but still havent tried it.
PS, some of the powder creatines can upset your stomach if not completely disolved in your shake. Also, most need a loading time, but after the loading period, you probably dont need as much as it says on the label, atleast I dont. Also, many of these supplements should be taken with alot of water throughout the day, otherwise you get stomach problems, and if you dont eat enough you can get diarreah.

Definitely. It's probably one of the best, non-bullshit ergogenics that will work on absolutely any soul that takes it before a workout. It's cheap as hell, helps you to focus and some have some other wild ideas too. Like the idea of potentially stronger muscle contractions due to affecting the action of calcium positively.
I used to regard caffeine as a useless, 'dirty' drug and tried to abstain from it. I also was trying to gain weight so anything like that was a huge no-no. But know that I've wised up, I would honestly say that caffeine is pretty wonderful. I definitely don't appreciate it as much as I could. But to each their own. On slower days, I'll pop a cheap caffeine pill and hop down to the gym.
Err, yeah eligal... you should up your water with creatine, so a liquid based diet is definitely uncomfortable at times. Creapure granules don't even really dissolve 100%, you just have to man it out, swish it around and swallow it. That's why a lot of people are amazed by Green MAGnitude. It dissolves immediately and has a great, green apple flavor. CL worked really hard to deliver a better tasting supplement after releasing their Essential Amino Product, Purple Wraath.
Just got back from the gym, by the way. Creatine definitely helps force out more reps and lift heavier weights. Shoulder day, new PRs. I'm too stoked.
