looking for advice on adjusting ph.

Ok so heres the situation. There is a big bag of sphagnum peat moss sittin around waiting for me to get to the casing stage. I also have a bag of horticultural hydrated lime. The sphagnum peat moss i have has the pH adjusted already. The bag says that it is adjusted to between 5-6.5. I know 7 is desired and im wondering if I should even bother adding additional buffer or if it should just stay as is?
Lemme know what you guys think and if it's advisable to adjust the pH some what would be a reccomended amount of Lime to add, keeping in mind that the pH is already adjusted some.
Thanks in advance folks

The hippie peat moss i bought didn't even say "ph adjusted", it just already was... 6.5
i wont complain, means i didnt have to add anything... plus I've never had a problem with mold in my apartment, so i probably wouldn't have adjusted anyways, but yeah... I think myc likes anything up to 8.5, so you'll be fine just adding a few teaspoons of lime.

jcee i dont think you were really reading my posts. im not going to throw out everything i have when what i have will work perfectly fine. I was just seeing if adding any lime would even be needed. I don't think i really need to but im going to add just a little bit anyways..

Lime is not necessary for the mushrooms. They'll fruit fine in the 5 to 6.5 range. However, that is also the ph that contaminants like the green molds prefer. Mushroom mycelium is tolerant of higher ph levels, while the contaminant molds are not. Use a teaspoon of hydrated lime per cup of peat, and also a tablespoon of gypsum per cup of peat. Mix the dry ingredients together well, then add water and then mix with your already moistened vermiculite. The above will make your casing layer more resistant to contaminants. It won't make it fruit any better or worse. RR
