That looks like a species of Amanita. Many are deadly poisonous. Can you get a photo of the base of the mushroom?

It is an Amanita. They are tough to identify to species. You should consider it poisonous, perhaps deadly so. CureCat asked you about the base because Amanitas typically have a bulbous base or even sort of a sac that they grow out of. They can be left in the ground when you pick them.

Amanita rubescens (The Blusher) from the looks of it. Edible but not worthwhile.

I found three huge mushies that look exactly like that Amanita. They were about 5 inches across the cap and looked really good to eat, but since I am deadly afraid of amanitas, I just took them home to keep in my collection. When in the process of drying them, my dog ate them and I flipped because I wasnt sure wether or not they were deadly. I was ready to take him to the vet, but he puked them about 30 mins later so I wasnt all that worried. Lesson learned: never let mushies dry that I do not intend to eat myself.

Amanita rubescens (if thats what your dog ate) are slightly toxic. In Europe they tend to par boil them first and then discard the water before cooking further.
