Juvenile Detention Centers
    #5867115 - 07/16/06 08:13 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

I'm kind of posting this out of curiousity.

When I was 16, my mom and I went to an outpatient psychologist one time for me to talk to him about *my* problems. (I guess I was acting out against/resisting my overcontrolling, religious freak mother and alcoholic father. They argued and yelled around the house a lot, but I could go on and on about the family problems. Suffice it to say, they, especially mom, viewed this as totally my problem alone not being a perfect angel for her.) Anyway, I finally agreed to go with my mom to just talk to him a bit and I did. Then he 'strongly recommends' my mom to keep me there (the detention center). Well, I was furious and didn't want to stay of course, after all, I generously came with her to this guy and told her I didn't want to stay. The psychologist pushes the papers in front of her and at first she wasn't going to sign them, but he kept insisting and I was getting really pissed at that point. She, of course, caved in and signed them to keep me there and it took 6-8 people to drag me up to the next floor and chain me to a bed. Later on they forcibly took my blood I guess to see if I had any 'chemical abnormalities' (which turns out I didn't). Anyway, I was mostly by myself for 14 days, sometimes I saw some of the other kids that were there. They prescribed medications for me, but I was surprised they even gave me the choice to take them or not after everything else they were pulling (I didn't take any of the meds). Since I couldn't be 'cured' and had stayed there longer than they had a kid stay there, they just gave up and I went home. I never forgave my mother for that, and it still pisses me off to this day.

So my question is has anyone else had a similar experience and how did you get over it?

Many things like this happen every day.  The only way you will ever get over this is to stop making it relevant in the present.  If at this point you no longer have to deal with her, you need to let this go however traumatic it was, so you will finally quit relevating it constantly.  ....Wow- that was the furst time that I ever actually tried to give advice without a hint of smartass.  Oh- it'll never work... :bendoverrover:

That fucking sucks man, sorry to hear you had to endure that. I've never experienced anything similar but if that was me, as soon as i got out of there i would have broke the shrinks legs and at the very least bitch slapped my mother. But then again im a fairly vengeful person... YMMV (Your Mentality May Vary)

I wasn't sent off, but I did the whole counseling thing and non-understanding parent thing.

Quit blaming your parents for everything. Afterall, they're behavior is no excuse for yours. Just guessing, you probably made the decision easy for your mom to put you in that shithole. Because with all the problems you seem to think they have... you're adding more to their plate. Communicate with your parents and maybe they'll understand where you're coming from much like you should them.

It may not be fair, it never is, but the quicker you learn to handle situations calmly/rationaly; the sooner you start getting your way.
