Oyster shell flour in hyphae's signature
    #5865642 - 07/16/06 01:56 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

Beware, I just ended up paying more than 20 dollars for that 2 dollar pound of oyster shell flour and a small brick of coir (2 dollars for the coir).

they calculate shipping AFTER you submit your order, and they have a small order charge. So I got an invoice, 2 dollars for the flour, 2 for the coir, FIVE dollars for the small order fee, and 13 dollars shipping!

Not only that, but it took them 3 weeks to even process my order and charge, and if it doesn't get here overnight shipping, i'm going to dispute the charge with my bank.

Yea, don't let them get away with that shit!

If you file a dispute it usually costs the company a $20 fee just to have your bank investigate it, reguardless of the outcome. I found that out when I didn't recognize a charge on my card and my stupid bank gave me only part of their 800 number and couldn't give me the rest of it. I only wanted the number to find out who it was, I never even wanted to file a dispute, but my bank did anyway. The company called me up and was quite upset since it cost them $20 over an $80 order. I bitched the hell out of my bank for that, but I'm not sure if the company ever did get the $20 back.

I've never had a problem with them myself but I did order 10lbs at a time. I'm sure they do have some type of minimum order most places do that would have saved you your $5 small order fee and shipping would have been the same with 10lbs or 2lbs. It doesn't pay for them to package up such small orders, this has been my experience with many many companies over many years. No doubt $13 shipping for such a small amount is outrageous and as always checking credit card statements is a must!

No, the small order charge is bullshit, it's not for x amount of lbs, it's any order under 10 dollars... that could be 5 pounds of oyster flour or 10 lbs of coir, etc. I order small things all the time and would have to say that this website is definately out of line.

Thats business, it doesn't pay for me to get up and go to work for $40 a day. It doesn't matter whether is lbs. or $$$ it's there time too and time is money bro if you don't like it deal with it and let everyone know there is a $10 minimum. You order small quantities all the time? well so do I and I've often paid more for shipping than the actual product especially when I've gotten killer deals on e-bay. I once bought an item on e-bay that cost me $66 and the shipping was $277 now that was outrageous! :crazy2:

Some peep's don't want to pay the shipping on 50lbs.

That's business, too.

I did buy the 50 lbs.
Shipping was $27.
All total, far under $1 a pound.

Now shipping 50lbs across country now that would be outrageous for a $7 item! LOL
Got me there!

I'm west coast, and fairly close to them.
Shipping to the east coast would be a BUNDLE.

It's funny, this is such a hard to find product.
All it is crushed oyster shells.
There are millions of ton's of shell waste products on both coasts.

It might be cheaper just to get your local stores to order it for you.

I went shopping today and found everything that's ever discussed here EXCEPT oyster shell flour. That sucks because that's what I was looking for. I got some food grade chalk instead.

I've got a 50 lb. bag of oyster shells that I don't use any longer if anyone needs any. I work at a limestone quarry, and have recently just started using aglime for PH. Shoot me a PM if interested, and I'll send you some crushed oyster shells for near to nothing. (Feel free to check my trade ratings)

I get my oyster shell for $.40 / LB (crushed) from the feed store. You can fit quite a bit in a USPS flat rate box if anyone needs any

I also get my shell flower from a Fleet&Feed place, along with bails of straw,
the shell size is from powder to 5mm peices, so it's chunky, but at $6 for 50lbs I ain't griping.

Peat moss from Lowes, can't remember the price, it was really cheap tho, and the 4 cubic foot bag of vermiculite was $19 at the hydro store.
