Tie dying felt?

Is it possible to tie dye felt and get a good dye job out of it? I've searched the net and haven't found shit about it. I'd suspect that the dye would bleed too much to get good distinctive patterns and whatnot. But my friend and I were talking about what color we want our pool table top and somehow tie dye came up. So now I have to find out A)if it's possible, and B)how the fuck to do it!

Man I really don't think that would work. Felt is too thick and fibrous to crinkle enough. You need a thin fabric, like T-shirt cotton, that will rumple and fold underneath your rubber bands That way the dye soaks into some parts but not others. Why do you want to tie-dye felt anyway? Hats?

I've built a few pool tables before and the hardest part was putting that felt on right. But the felt for pool tables isn't very thick so I figure it wouldn't be hard to actually do the dying. What I'm unsure of is whether the dye will bleed and ruin the design or maybe it won't even hold that well. Even worse is that I doubt anybody really has experience with tie dying felt

Ohhhhhh yeah that would look groovey But you can get custom designs put on felt like silk-screening, right? Just like it says "Golden Casino" on the felt for the trck-shot exhibition game on ESPN I mean I think I have seen that Well anyway Good night all Good luck DNKYD

I think the best answer would be to try it on a small swatch of the felted fabric you plan on using. Try an 8 inch square using the same procedure that's used for tie-dying cotton T-shirts. There are tie-dye kits at craft stores. I know the Michael's stores around here carry them.
The technique I've used in the past requires me to gather areas of the fabric with an elastic, dye it, un-elastic it, then let it dry. So, yeah... I suggest trying it on a small swatch to see what happens. Let us know, I'm curious

Maybe just using a paint brush with dye and waters polar bond would work.

Goobs, do you know if that is an actual dye job or if that's a screen printed custom design? Or did you just pick that up off google? That thing looks badass. I don't know if I'd be able to do custom rails, though. That might be hard.
Thanks for the links turkey.
