been searching for pictures of the same contam i get all the time, and found some, which are included below (not my pictures, i take no credit etc etc). It seems most think this is the contam Trichoderma , but i think it was anno who said ti is actually the contam Penicilium / Aspergi. Anyway, this is the ONLY contam i ever get, and have been getting regularly recently. What is the cause of this contam? can it infect a spore print? can it be present in a spore syringe? thank you

Those pics are definitely Asperg./Pen. The source is likely the grain, though could be external. If you're using a tightly screwed on lid w/filter disk or polyfill, odds are it's coming from the grain. If using the metal lids in a not-quite-so clean environment [which could include too-quick of a cooling step] you could be sucking it in from the outside. If it were a chronic problem, I'd definitely try holding back two negative controls--- 1. Jar that is not opened at all, but shaken and incubated with the rest. 2. Jar that is inoculated with a fake injection/inoculation and then shaken and incubated with the rest. That should narrow the source down pretty well, and you can always use the negative controls later if they're OK.

i use BRF and verm, and sometimes works, sometimes get the above contam, so i assume it isn't the grain as it would give 100% contam, which it doesn't. don't use filters, just a 'clea' verm layer, and tape the holes. (am getting some filters tho when get some money) Do have metal lids, and is a not-so-clean enviroment, and cooling step is quite quick. Hopefully, when get some filters , and will let cool in a clean envorment, won't suffer so much from this contam. I just thought it weird i get this contam regularly and NEVER had another one. anyways thanks for your reply

Do you use the oven tek? If so, try making a quick glove box out of an old cardboard box and some plastic wrap. Spray the inside down with lysol before you use it. The Penicilium / Aspergillus spore load in my kitchen is _huge_.
