Tips for packing a bag like this?

This is the bag I'm bringing with me to Europe:

I've been packing, unpacking, and repacking. It seems like a bitch to get everything in there, especially because my girlfriend told me to put everything I will need last at the bottoma nd I'm not sure that was. Has anyone else packed a bag like this for a month-long trip before and have some tips for me? I'm taking 1 week's worth of clothes and doing laundry as I go.

Pack light, roll it tight.
Don't forget a lighter, and your journal. Good luck.

Can't bring a lighter on a plane! I forgot to buy a new journal! I need to go to Barnes and Noble tomorrow morning.

pack it according to the stuff you'll use the most. Put the necessities on top, save yourself digging to the bottom of that big pack.

Yeah you can. Put it in your pocket. They don't set off the metal detectors. I've done it a few times.
It's rediculous that they steal people's lighters. They're going to need them to light their cigarette that they've been wanting that whole damn plane ride.
