something weird on my foil

I was cooling jars on my counter and i had them covered with foil to keep airborne contams off the tops. i wish i had my camera to show everyone. anyway, i had covered the jars in foil and then put the hoops on over the foil... pressure cooked them and then after the pressure dropped to atmospheric i took them out to pc more and let the others cool on the counter top. i covered them with foil as i said and when i took it off to feel how hot they were there was a spot where the foil was resting on 1 jar top that was all black and nasty... i have never seen this before... is it something with my water? the foil? it is very distinct anddoes not wipe away and i do not see how it could be burned...

Hmm I'm not sure, I can't think of what that could be,
someone else?
But, it is safe to say that you should keep that one away from your lot, in a cardboard box relatively close to your incubator -you don't want to risk contamination with whatever the black gunk is.
Good Luck.

My jars sometimes have a slight film on them and the foil has turned black sometimes on the edges.. i guess its just burnt foil.. so far its happened to all my jars.. if you used a towel to displace heat it could be some of the stuff off them...? thats the only thing i can think of.. so far all my jars have turned out fine so your prob ok...

it's not on the foil that is covering the jars under my hoops, i used a large piece of foil to cover the whole group and one of them had a distinct imprint of the tops of one of my jars and it was all black and nasty.. something from the tops of one of my jars transferred to the outter covering of foil
-------------------- I want to talk to you about appearance. Most of you dress like shit. I don't know what your financial situation is like right now but you need to buy at least one decent suit. There is a minimum level of aesthetic professionalism that we have here. In a couple of months you'll be able to outfit your whole closet, but for now just get something to hold you over. There's an important phrase that we use here and I think it's time you all learned it. "Act as if". Do you understand what that means? Act as if you are the fucking president of this firm. Act as if you have a nine inch cock. Act as if. To do this properly you need to at least look the part. So go get dressed.

Foil blackening happens all the time in pressure cooking. Usually just on the part that hangs down into the water, but it can happen anywhere.
Nothing to worry about.
