This LURKER needs help ASAP.. thanks in advance
    #5862157 - 07/15/06 03:29 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

I've been trolling this site for years. Thanks everyone for the info. Never really posted anything as I am a paranoid bastard (I smoke weed). I never contributed as I have nothing to contribute... I'm still learning... Right now, I've brought my laptop to a friend's so my ip doesn't get traced... (I know about proxies, and the likes too, but as I said I'm paranoid)

I've grew a few times... only cakes with much success (and much failures at times).. I was planning to do a bigger grow. So of course we had to do casing. I tried casing before (2 of them) and both of them failed. Not sure what I did wrong. I think maybe it was because I didn't use Verm. on the bottom but used casing mix (50/50 coco and verm.) and maybe the limestone had Magnesium in it, or I used to much limestone? Anyways, they both slowly died, the mycelium, never had pins or nothing, just slowly weathered away.

This time I used Verm. on the bottom... no limestone (avoid some problems until I get it right). But no pins either. It has been over a week. I'm using the greenhouse with coolmist on 24/7... the humidity is around 88% to 99%... usually around 95%...

Now I got a new AC but went away for a few days... I attached the water line from the AC to a garden hose but that didn't work and the AC shut off for a while.. so I had temperatures of 85-90F degrees for a few days.. but now my temps are at 72-78 always.. my temps have been constant for like 5 days, still not pinning. I'm getting scared I don't want the mycelium to die again. I wanna do casing.

Picture below.. I keep the casing near saturated.

Since I was new to casing I needed some cakes so I can have some stuff to eat incase I messed up again. I use to use a fish tank with hydroponic grow rocks with an air pump.. keeps the humidity up with FAE... And i had great success with cakes before... but I tried putting the cakes in the greenhouse before, and with the temp. changes maybe it couldn't handle it? I thought it would be enough humidity for cakes.. but maybe not?? The mycelium started to get fluffy, like growing to crazy. Why is that? Humidity too low right? I think my humidity at 100% didn't case that before. Maybe the crazy temp. change?? I also read that u should spray the cakes with water, i usually never do that... i never sprayed before until this run.. can that cause the problem??

So i moved the cakes back to the fish tank set up with airpump. cause I'm hungry and need something to eat. But the mycelium is still growing crazy...

Picture below....

lights are on 12-18 hours a day...

So now my casing and cakes are getting their ass kicked recently.. I NEED YOUR HELP... THANKSSSS

Maybe I'll start a log if I save them.

Conclusion.....
why does my casing suck?
why does my cakes suck?
what should i do?

recently the mycelium has been growing even more crazy.... even more than the picture!!

I wanna get up to hippie chicks level soon without the poo poo... (admirer of her work)

I think they mean "lurker" and not troll.

You might want to get that internet terminology down a little better before you end up insulting yourself again.

I'd say ease up on your humidity levels.  That fluffly myce could be an indication of high rh.  increase your air exchange if possible, it can't hurt.  That high temp spike may have delayed pinning by reverting the myc. to 'vegitative' stage again.  give it some time, the casing doesn't look that bad, although it's not pretty.  keep trying and you will succeed, effort + knowledge = success.

ps, you're pretty safe browsing here, posting is really the only thing you'd wanna be careful about.

good luck!

Again drop that water level and make sure temps are in the low 70's. You may need to make use of polyfil stuffed holes also.

YEAH! finally got my first casing pinning!!!! thanks guys... i think the temperature raised.. and postponed my pinning.... there are alot of pins!!! looks like it's gonna be a good run...

I took 5 cakes that had crazy mycelium and decided to turn them into case. When i was separating the cakes it had very hard mycelium like plastic.... Is that overlay? I thought cakes don't have overlay?

I'll post pics soon of my pinned casing! I'm so happy!! I'll Have a harvest after all!

I'm gonna post an invention I had for a while, maybe Help the community. The super reservoir for my cool mist.. it can store up to 35g !!! lol.... look out for a new thread soon

also I guess i'll have a log of this grow to help people with similar problems with pinning like myself.

One more thing... lol....

I heard u can DUNK casings.... Was reading hippie chick she takes weights and stuff.... so u just fill up the whole container with water?? wouldn't that get the verm. really wet? do u do it as long as cakes (18hrs)?? anyone got a good tutorial/link on how to dunk casings???

thanks guys.. u are the greatest!! love the community... like the great community overgrow once had... *tear tear*

LOOK out HippieChick! Here I come!

Nice grow   You're the nicest troll I know :P

Glad shit worked out.  Dunking cakes is when you submerge the cakes underwater for 24 hours to improve flushes.  Haven't done it myself though, so just check the teks.
