Does anyone know if these are good to use or should they be avoided? I hear they emit ozone which I hear destroys mold. I'm just wondering if anyone uses one. If so, which model? And does anyone know an ionzer that does not emit ozone?

An ionizer doesn't emit ozone, it emits negative ions. They cause the particles in the air to stick to things like walls, the floor, etc. So while your air might be cleaner, it will make your walls dirtier.
I don't really know if they'd be helpfull or harmfull. I don't think they'd cause any major problems though.
You can get a kind that uses a positively charged collection grid to attract the particles and trap them so that they don't end up just sticking to the walls. Sharper image sells ones like this. Those would be quite a bit better than the ones that just charge them and make them stick to the walls.

An air purifier, ionizer, etc. should always be used.
Ionizers emit a small amount of ozone as a by-product.
The best type of cleaner to get would be a 6-stage. They can be had for 150ish on the internets if you look around. I choose Ozone over PCO for the 6th stage and you can run it on medium or low with no problems. It sterilizes the air and contam's just..don't happen.
At the very least get a cheap HEPA or a ULPA.

The amount of ozone produced is negligible. Certainly not enough to do anything.
UV and HEPA filtration are the only practical ways to sterilize the air. Any sort of filter will help if it actually removes particles from the air and traps them. Ionizers and ozone generatiors don't really do that.
Ozone units don't generate high enough concentrations of ozone to kill anything, they're only good at removing odors. If they did generate high enough concentrations of ozone they wouldn't be safe to be around.

Ionizers drop particles out of the air.
And unless you're using some cheapie ozone generator, they indeed work and can generate high levels, such as a period before sterile work or on lower levels for general purification.

Sure they work at what they're designed for... eliminating odors. Not killing bacteria and spores. The vendors that made those claims have been sued and forced to stop making those claims by the EPA.
The EPA sets limits on how much ozone a device can produce. Assuming they're not in violation of EPA standards (which some HAVE been proven to be) they will neither kill you, nor bacteria and spores.
I have an awesome ozone generator, but I would never use it in a room that I'm in. Ozone is not good for you. I crank it up on high and let it deodorize a room or car, then turn it off and use a window fan to vent the room before I go in it again. I KNOW it cranks out ozone in concentrations far greater than the EPA allows, which is why I don't use it when I'm around. It might oxidize some sensitive organisms to the point of killing them, but it doesn't sterilize anything. And that's with a generator in violation of EPA regs, on high, in an unoccupied room.
