Ok, I have 3 1-qt rye jars. I don't have any poo. I do have castings. What would be the most benificial way to fruit them? Should I just spread out the rye and case it?

Crumble and case in a container that will allow 2-4 inches of substrate depth. Fruit and enjoy.

yeah you can spread out the Rye grain and put a casing layer over it.
Rye grain is probably the best grain to do this with.

This thread might be a bit old but....
I was searching for info on casing straight rye without spawning to bulk substrate (I could do that, but I'm leaving soon and I wanna make quick use of these 3 colonized pint jars) and saw it mentioned somehwhere that one could mix in some coir with the rye to basically boost the water content (and also the nutes, in the case of coir I guess).
Since I don't have any coir though, I'm wondering if I should mix in a bit of regular potting soil just for the added moisture or forget about it altogether since I have very limited time and colonization of that soil is gonna lengthen the process...
what do you guys think, will I get decent results with just stright rye or will it make a big difference if I mix in some soil? (I mean obviously it'll make a difference, but I'm wondering if its worth the extra wait which I don't technically have time for...)

Just case it, potting soil will more then likely ruin your grow
