Anyone else heard of popcorn instead of Verm?

Just wondering if what I have heard was a bunch of bullshit, that popcorn is a suitable replacement for vermiculite. I'm not trying to work with verm any more, perlite was one thing but wetted down in my terrarium now, verm i would have to work with every couple weeks if I keep this hobby going, and I don't feel like taking all the precautions. Even on the verm bag it says "Do not work with if you have any open cuts, do not eat of put in mouth, and use a saw dust mask when working with" or something to that effect.
If anyone else has heard of this, do you know if it can be used as a casing layer (along with some peat or something like that)
I'm going to try it alone as a casing just as an experiment if it ends up working in the jars.

the verm that i get from Lowes works fine...i doesnt get really dusty...and the only recommendation (not warning) is they suggest you wear gloves if mixing it with Fertilizer

That would be a good assessment of using popcorn to replace vermiculite. RR

Thanks.
From a lot of these posts I hear people talking about the popcorn substrate Tek. Anyone have a link to that, I can't find it.

Popcorn contains nutrients.

Haha wow I'm feeling pretty dumb right now... I pictured adding 3 cups of brf, 3 cups of water, and 6 cups of crushed, popped popcorn... then adding a layer of dry, popped popcorn on top.
Hehehe... I wonder if that'd work.
Basically I'm looking for something that absorbs water and has no nutes, like verm, and can be mixed with brf.
If all else fails, I'll take a 6 different possibly working replacements for the verm in brf jars and experiment. (2 jars of each type, with two different water levels, y'know?) But before I do this I'd like some ideas or some already tested and working methods for this, if anyone has any.
Thanks!

Somebody should try scooping up some very small gravel from a stream bed or something and trying that. I've also seen some pretty course beach sand around fresh water lakes. If vermiculite goes away, it would be nice to have a few ideas in mind. RR

Certain types of pumice are so light, they float.
At the same time, they will absorb multiple times their weight in water.
I would wager, 1/4 inch minus pumice of that type, might suffice.

Small gravel from a stream bed, pumice- good ideas, i'll look into it for my experiment.
Here's what my plan is so far for my next 12 jars- 2 jar of brf verm as a comparison 2 jars of large, verm sized chunks of plain popped popcorn with brf 2 jars of pretty ground up pumice (hopefully not powedered though) w/ brf
Anyway that's what I have so far, I'm also thinking about bits of broken up pasta to replace it, but I think that might rot. Maybe chunks of store bought mushroom? Maybe not pourous enough. Please people I need some more ideas. I'm going to the store tommorow and searching for items that are pourous and would possibly work in place of vermiculite. The thing is, most of the stuff I will use have nutes in it (other than pumice) so I don't know how it'll work out if its not completely like vermiculite. But its not like these shrooms have to go on verm in the wild so I should be able to find a replacement, and when I do and I perfect it, I'll be sure to make a Tek.
EDIT: more ideas, not officially in my list though they are pending Shale, slate, clay, peat, saw dust, wood chips, growool (i think growool has glass fibers in it that can damage your lungs, so maybe not) 100% brown rice or brown rice flower, pebbles, foam (packing materials and the like)
so far pumice looks like the most promising alternative

ok i let this drop a long long time ago, but you look like a person willing to experiment and i would love to see someone try it with pictures if they could...but anyways here's my far fetched idea
non nutrious(shit what would want to eat it), highly absorbant....tampons. dam i still laugh...but im still serious why wouldn't it work? ok don't anwser that lets just try it.

oh i bet you havn't heard about the new doucheing tek either then right? basicly you just douche contam's away.
and 50 would be overkill, them things i heard swell up when wet...so one of them would easily do one jar, im thinkin you could get 2 or 3 .
you could also buy pads(they are like stickers right?) then just fill your jars all the way up, skip your metal lid just throw that thing on the top and volia!! you have your casing, and a filter, and a lid all in one.: whoops forgot it would melt:

hey no need for insults.
there not dumb.
part of the reason cakes contam indoors is due to the fact that contaim just sits on the nuturent items....if they were flushed with clean water daily some or most would wash away....a bag with 2 holes on each side with a mesh filter would work, useing water to flush on one side other to drain on the other side. (this used with other measures could get closer to copying nature outside).
my idea's are only "dumb" because people are so locked up in retarded "clicks" or what not...ooooo tampons gross this guys a sick idiot. yeah i put humor into my idea's...but there is some truth behind them...just because nobody has the balls(yes that includes me) to try it doesn't make it stupid or dumb.
i mean WTF is VERM is a non nutrious substance that obsorbs water.....WTF IS A GOD DAM TAMPON FUCK!!! but no im not serious im a idiot....sorry for my outburst.

a tampon is a nutritious substance... it's compressed cotton! Cotton grows on a bush, has nutrients and would probably rot in a substrate.
But hey, if you want to jam a jar full of tampons, go ahead... perhaps a brf/tampon mix is the next PFtek.

Okay, sorry for calling you dumb I thought you were just screwing with me.
http://www.lard.net/packing.html
Edible foam. Foam is pourous, and this kind is not poisonous. However, since it is nutrioutious, I'm guessing there'd be a chance of rottage. Thoughts?

but seriously, who says it has to be non-nutritous? (inside the cake at least)... somethin that has the moisture/consistency properties and nutrition... the popped popcorn might just work
(although i would like to see a tampon cake!)

i'll do a tampon cake if someone can tell me what kind of dye i can use on the tampons so i could actually see if it was 100% colonized.
