Testing: Press N Seal (Saran Wrap alternative)
    #5861265 - 07/15/06 09:40 AM (17 years, 6 months ago)

I have been researching Press N Seal (PnS) for various usages related to the board.

I like PnS because, while translucent, it has a cloudy appearance which I find to be a major bonus (security).  Plus I hate saran wrap in general, especially after migrating to PnS for general kitchen stuff.

Here are my findings so far:

Press N Seal can be used in place of saran wrap at any point.  It should stick to any surface SW does, only better.  A better seal appears to be oft desired for various purposes in mycology.  For example, PnS makes for a great top to a glass (or generally smooth) dessication chamber.

Press N Seal did not help as well as I had hoped on a large storage Sterilite container.  PnS was being evaluated as a substitute for a plexi-glass window, but I did not have the results *I* desired.
It appears that PnS seals best to smooth surfaces (duh, ghost, just like saran wrap!) while the external portion of this particular container was similar to a very fine grade of sandpaper.  I would imagine this problem would not exist if the surface was as smooth as the inside lid.

A variation could be considered to just use the PnS on the smooth side (inside) of a plastic FC.  I was picturing more of a sandwich: PnS -> Lid -> PnS, so I was disappointed in that aspect.

Last note, as PnS is commonly used in and around food, it should not cause any unexpected issues.  Humidity should not create an issue either, as the product works perfectly in the fridge.

Caveats: I did not test PnS for long-term usage (yet), but the product alleges to work fine in the freezer for LT food storage.

PS - I don't work for or own stock in whatever company or companies related to the product (laughing), just an experimenter at heart.
