Casing container transfer

After my first flush of GTs, the casing has shrunk (and brusied) quite a bit. And now I am realizing why people say DONT USE ALUMINUM. I went to dunk the bastard and of course water drippity drip drip dripped all over the fridge. So I was planning on doing a transpant to another container. Is it going to be a problem if the casing doesnt exactly "fit" in the new container? (i.e. space on the sides and such) And what if anything should be done here? (Fuck aluminum... I should listened the first time) -Me

Just stick it in anything you have. It doesn't have to fit. The block will fruit just sitting on wax paper in the FC. RR

If it doesn't fit the new container. Pack the SIDES, with casing material, to make it fit.

Wait woa why didn't I get this notice? I just got two of these aluminum baking thingers for casing! What will happen now that I've cased it? If it does sink in from the sides, will I have to redo it or will it work like that? Can't I just fill the sides with more verm or something?

There's been several threads lately on aluminum. Here's just one. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/5608912#Post5608912

Aluminum pans work great. They're the cheapest and best way to do pans and afterwards you can recycle them for $$$.
The ONLY scientific reason not to use aluminum is to reduce side pinning due to the reflectivity of the aluminum.
It's the acidity of "myc piss" that causes holes in aluminum pans, not the myc "eating" it. This also won't happen until you've used the pans MANY times.
I would also point out that aluminum is NOT a heavy metal and that 8% of the earth's surface is composed of aluminum. It's the third most abundant element on earth.
There are 35 metals of concern, with 23 of them called "heavy metals". Aluminum is not one of them.
Aluminum is constantly ingested by humans through the use of food additives, antacids, buffered aspirin, astringents, nasal sprays, antiperspirants, from drinking water, automobile exhaust, tobacco smoke, and from using aluminum foil, aluminum cookware, aluminum cans, and ceramics.
The additional amount you would get from using aluminum pans to grow your mushrooms, in comparison to your normal daily intake, is infinitesimal.

Ingesting aluminum has been linked to Alzheimer's disease.
Moreover, aluminum trays BEND & will not hold shape or weight - well.
The king pin of trays, is an utterly opaque 12 quart PP dishpan.

They cost +/- $1.50 each retail. I found them in a DOLLAR $tore.
I bought all they had (25).
You can kick them around like a soccer ball. They don't leak, bend, break, wear out, and are easy to clean up.
These will last a decade, if cared for.

> Ingesting aluminum has been linked to Alzheimer's disease.
Many metals are involved in protein folding, which is a major component in alzheimer's. Aluminum may be a contributing factor to developing alzheimer's, but it certainly doesn't cause it. The studies you are referring to only looked at aluminum in drinking water, which is not the major source of aluminum. Therefore the link has not been established.
Alzheimer's is genetic but, as with most genetic issues, environment also plays a factor. As I noted earlier, there are a lot bigger sources of aluminum that you are probably exposed to. So if you've already given up all the other sources, THEN maybe you should look at ditching aluminum pans. Otherwise it's like ordering a 1,500 calorie supersized #5 with DIET coke.
I agree that those plastic pans are nice though. If you can find them as cheap as that then go with them for sure. Otherwise, aluminum pans are usually cheaper and work just fine.
The late 90's aluminum scare isn't a good reason to ditch aluminum though. I thought we were long past that.

Rog, for me personally I have had some issues with the aluminum. (More than with plastic containers) Not that big of an issue, just a lesson learned for me. Plastic it is - fuck aluminum. (My opinion) -Me

I enjoy the aluminum for their disposability -also of course why I don't enjoy them hah.
I can't seem to find any nice tubs that are affordable, I've been up and down all the dollar stores and what not.
So I'm just using the Alu-trays for now, they do just fine.

I use the 12 quart dish pans from the $1 store...
mine are blue though!~
and I can just throw those away when I'm done...
why bother cleaning something that only cost a $1
