Spawn Starter Kits, any good?
    #5860743 - 07/15/06 04:29 AM (17 years, 6 months ago)

I've recently stumbled across this site, and others, that are dedicated to growing mushrooms and have become very interested. While searching through this site a found a link to these starter kits. I was just wondering if anybody here has had any experience with these, good or bad. It seems much easier than growing mushrooms in jars, which makes me somewhat suspicious. I figure if it doesn't work I just lose $20 so I'll probably try them out, jsut wondering if anybody here can help.

thanks

I wouldn't do it unless you have a lot of money to blow and are really lazy. In that case, you could just buy mushrooms off the street.

Honestly, all you have to do is mix water, brf, and vermiculite, throw them in some jars and put foil over them, boil them for an hour, and then you've saved 20 bucks. Sure you have to buy some boxes of verm and brf, but 20 bucks (or about 30, it depends) worth of verm and brf will make you about four sets of jars (12 jars in each set) which will make you a grand total of about 120-360 dried grams, thats 34-102 eighths, and just selling one of those eights will make you back that 20 bucks and then some!

And then you can give the rest away for free and loved by everyone! (Except that dude you sold them too)

EDIT: and all the mushroom dealers in your town
