Prepping Amanitas
    #5859559 - 07/14/06 08:14 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

I hope this is the right forum i was a little confused as to which this would go in.
Anyway, i picked alot of Amanitas today, and i cut the stems with scissors to make it about a 3:1 cap:stem ratio, and then put them on a baking sheet and put them in the oven for about an hour and a half at 350 degrees. is this the right way to do this? alot of the guides i read are very general and confusing... i didnt kill them did i? :<

I think you might have. I think the temp should be more like 170-200 fahrenheit. But don't sweat, odds are they'll flush like crazy again, so check those patches.

You should dry them at about 150 as the actives are destroyed at 170 degrees. The tradition siberian/european way to prepare amanitas is to put them in christmas like stockings over the fireplace allowing them to become cracker dry overnight :P

Where do you live? How many amanitas do you have around you? Do you have any pictures/descriptions of what they look like? Very curious
