Weird reishi growth.  :smile2:

That antler grew, then stopped after I opened the bag up.  Then those conks formed out.   Then some other bags I had didn't fruit at all.  No idea.

how long did that take to get you there? Also, did you do isolates on agar or what? Are the spores I got from you from these?

Beautiful

Yeah, it's from the same culture; from an LC made with that culture. I wanted to get some spores, though, so I don't have to worry about senescence.

This is one day's growth.  Crazy.

The conk is already surrounding that antler; something like 5-10mm of growth in a day.

And the second flush from the 5 gallon bucket (nevermind the mold :smirk: ):

Waiting for a new pitcher of reishi tea to cool as we speak.  :stoned:

Yeah.  It went dormant for awhile, then I started heating it properly, and it went crazy.  I've got some colonized jars right now--I'm going to pasteurize some wood tonight or tomorrow and fill up a few more buckets.  Fuck plastic bags.

Nice update on that bucket grow, wondered how it turned out. I had reishi growing from a pint jar for over a year. It put out an antler, then it kinda went dormant over the colder months, but when the weather got warmer it took off. Interesting to see how much your bucket block pulled away from the bucket wall.

Yeah, I just spawned grain to 3 more 5 gallon buckets.  I'll post some pics once they're fruiting.  They love this heat outside.

It is incredible how much that 5 gallon bucket substrate was consumed/recycled by the reishi mycelium.  That last pic is after I'd dunked it and let it fruit for another 3 weeks or so.  I dumped a bunch of spore water all over this stump in my yard--there's some white growth that looks like reishi mycelium right now, but, don't know.  Maybe I'll get lucky.

looking very nice indeed, bobo. i'm pretty keen to set up some outdoor buckets myself, what recipes and spawn would you recommend?

by the way, when someone says 'you wanna see my pet elephant'  i usually say no, otherwise they take out their trouser pockets, open their zipper and prepare to present their 'trunk'....... it'd be popular on a hen night probably!

Recipes?  You mean for tea?  Fuck, I just shred the dried fruits in a coffee grinder.  They get all fluffy, then you toss in however many grams you want for a liter or two liter pitcher.

For spawning substrate, I just go to this cabinet maker in my town.  They have 55 gallon drums of untreated hardwood shavings, and they give the shavings to me for free.  So, I just pasteurize that, then mix in vermiculite to balance the water content out (I just eyeball it).  Then, spawn the colonized grain to that and stuff it into buckets.

P.S. GET YOUR MIND OUT OF THE GUTTER. :smirk:

OK. I'll do a little growlog for these 5 gallon buckets I've got going.

This is 3.5 days after spawning for two of the buckets:

I'll post updates as things progress. I don't know if you could do this with other species--the core of the bucket might go anaerobic and get bacterial contams. Not sure, though.
