Habitat: Open lawn after a week of rain

Gills: The gill color varies from cream to a light orange color. The gills are attached.

Stem: woody in texture, apparent brown bruising when picked

Cap: Creamy Orange, 3-6 inches in diameter.

Spore print color: White/cream.

Bruising: Apparent browning of stem after picking

Location: East central Indiana

Hi Llamabox,

Those look like Ringless Honey Mushrooms (Armillariella tabescens).
Are there tiny black hairs growing from the center of the cap?

Yeah, very tiny black hairs. Almost too small to see.

Ringless honey mushrooms are reported to be good edibles, but some people have difficulty with them, so if you decide to try them eat only a small bite and then wait for a few hours to see if you experience any discomfort before eating more. I also read you need to cook them for a long time. Nice find.  :thumbup:

Good to see you in here again llamabox.
I have tried ringless honey mushrooms before. At that stage they are not too great. I think they are a mediocre edible even when young and in good condition anyways. I wouldn't bother with them.
I prefer other Armillarias, after cooking them very well of course. :wink:
